No more beater
Hi everyone, Well this morning on the way home from taking my daughter to school I had a little accident in my beater, '92 Loyale. It had just turned 140,000 mi. on Friday. I was making a left turn on a green arrow. I was number two in line. The first car got through. I was half way through the intersection when a lady driving a Ford Windstar, doing about 35mph came through the intersection going straight into the right side. Hit in front of the front door and also cleaned out front wheel, suspension, fender, grill, etc. In short, a total job. I have a little pain in my ribs and sternum. All from the shoulder belt. Had the Loyale towed home. Will clean the stuff out and then have it towed away for scrap. We had this car since 1992 and planned on keeping it for beater use till it wouldn't go anymore. To add insult to the whole deal, I had to take the SVX out in the rain today for the first time since I had the body work and paint done. Will look for a new beater. Take care, BOBB

Well I guess you can be thankfull that it was the Loyal and not the SVX and that it was after you dropped your daughter off too.
I hate thoes mini vans, I said it before they're out to get us, beware. You take care too Bobb. |
Beater
Hi Freak, You hit it just right. If it had been in the afternoon on the way home from school my daughter would have been in the front seat were the van plowed into the Loyale. She won't let me put her in the back seat and says riding backward makes her car sick. Now I'm really gun shy driving the SVX around with all those BAD drivers. But I'll get over it. Take care, BOBB

Dude, next time get a PROPER beater. Mine was a 1978 Mercury Marquis 4 door sedan brougham. Squad car blue. It rocked. 400 cubic inch v8, over 4000lbs of detroit iron, automatic, power everything. It was missing 2 hubcaps, to complete the 'get outta my way' look. The engine lit on fire once, but I just patted it out with a towel. Ran great. To any non attentive no turn signal using drivers in the world, I say one thing: BRING IT.
I miss that car. :D - Rob |
I'm not sure what michigan law is, but i would imagine the lady had insurance, right?

I say it's time for a XT6 Beater.....then you can have both of Subaru's 6 cylinder sporty cars ;)

MI Law
Hi Mike and Huck, She said she had a green light. I of course had a green arrow. The police did not issue her a ticket, and called it a draw. By the time the sheriff deputies arrived there were no witnesses left at the scene. So from the deputies standpoint it was a draw. As for a XT6. My daughter won't drive a stick. The XT6es i've seen in Michigan are real rust buckets. How about a CA car, used by a little old lady only to drive to poker night. Take care, BOBB
P/S Sill had the eye shade hanging from the rear view mirror. |
Man, I'm sorry to hear about it, Bobb. But the others have said it already: it could have been worse.
Michigan drivers are just the worst. I've lived in six states, now, and visited many, many more - and Michigan drivers are by far the worst. Constantly distracted, unskilled and aggressive - it's a terrible combination. I swear that Michigan doesn't require driver's ed. I've never seen such blatant disregard for safety or lack of car control by a population in my life. |
i am just glad to hear that you are okay....i hate it when ppl lie, that is the worst :(

Drivers
Hi Nick, I think Amber and you got out just in time. There was a five car fender bender that I had passed two blocks from my accident. Interesting info, At the five car deal there was one sheriff, one car. At my two car accident, we had two police cars from two different jurisdictions. Four sheriff cars. One of which was a command car with two officers in it. A full sized Superior Twp. fire truck, Two tow trucks and an EMS unit. But as it was I would rather be over served, than under served. The last accident I had was in 1979/1980. So Nick and all the other SVXers that posted. Thanks for thinking about me. Paraphrasing a local food chain, " You came for the cars, but you stayed for the people." Take care, BOBB

Sorry to hear about the accident, Bobb. I'm just glad that you are ok and your daughter was not in the car. Things could definitely been worse. Take care.
