Why Me? More Noises...

Well, I am having more noises from the passenger front side of my car. A clicking noise that is eating away at my brain. I thought that it was a bad cv joint, so I replaced the axle. Nope. Could it be a wheel bearing? If thats not it, I don't know what else to do. The clicking is getting worse and I can actually feel it in the car.

When I first changed the axle, the axle nut was only hand tight! this is why I am thinking that the wheel bearing was damaged. This only happens when turning to the left, at any speed. I can't really notice it at highway speeds though.

I think the rear bearing is bad too. But that is another story altogether.

BTW: I replaced the axle twice because I thought the new one was damaged.

Thoughts?

C'mon folks, I really need some help

what kind of noise is it and when does it occur? Does it happen when you accelerate and turn? Or does it just happen when your driving?

SVXer95 06-16-2004 08:55 PM

Clicking noise, almost like a bad cv, but not. Happens at any speed.

Just rode with someone else in the passenger seat so they could hear it, but it didn't happen at all:confused:

It seems to come and go when it pleases. It happens at all speeds when it does, awful sound.

Well, now it isn't doing it. I had drivemusicnow in the car to see if he could tell what it was and it didn't happen. Didn't happen on the way to work either. This is so weird. I am going to be pissed if it comes back.

Dude, just get some big ol' subs and make sure that the 'tick tick' is followed by that BOOOOM! Of course, the 'tick tick' would be speed sensitive, and it might be difficult to create a speed sensitive BOOOOOM! hehehe. Maybe this is a project us 3 Flint Town SVXers can work on

Would definitely be an interesting project. hehe. I don't think running around Flint with sounds like that coming out of the car is necessarily a good thing. Remember, I don't want to get shot...

A better project might be doing front and rear wheel bearings on my car.;)

It probably won't come back. Ive had a number of things happen to my SVX and then a few days or one week later they totally go away and never return ( knock on wood).

Everyone describes the bad CV joints with this clicking noise. When i had bad CV joints it was more like a hollow knocking noise that stopped when the wheel was turning back. I got the Axle and the entire shaft replaced for 400 dollars....yea i know i got robbed

I know what a cv noise is as I've been through it before with other cars. This sounds similar, but different. It comes and goes. This isn't the first time it went away for a little while. It went away when I first did the axle then came back a few days later. Hence the second axle replacement. I know that it isn't an axle this time.

Came back when I went out for lunch:mad: :(

I guess cranking the stereo will fix it for now...

SVXer95 06-27-2004 08:29 PM

Well, the noise is back, with a vengance!

My car is now out of commission for the week. The noise got a lot worse and I still can't figure out what it is. It now happens when turning either right or left and is still only coming from the front right wheel. It almost sounds like a part being loaded up then springing free. I am a bit worried about driving it, I don't want it to fail completely.

Took off the front swaybar because I thought that my be related. Not much else left up there. I am leaning towards bearing, but don't have the tools I need to fix it.:(

I am not going to drive it for the week and just hope it makes the 300 mile drive to school. Then I will have some time to repair it.

Ball joint? Strut mount? Loose strut-to-strut mount bolt? Loose strut-to-hub bolt(s)? Trashed A-arm bushing?

SVXer95 06-28-2004 07:18 AM

New Ball Joint and new strut mount. It was also happening before both of those things were replaced. I will check out the a arm bushing, but the a arm was replaced less than a year ago. I think all of my problems are due to some sub-standard repairwork done a year and a half ago. I also found a loose axle nut in this area due to the same faulty service. I think this is related.

It happens with the revolution of the wheel, a repeating tick, tick, tick, that is now becoming a creak, creak, creak. :(

Thanks for the hint on the a arm. I will check it out.

If it happens with each rotation of the wheel, then it seems the trouble should be near the axle or axle shaft or the rotor. Maybe the caliper is loose and rubbing?
