How to Warp Rotors or Almost Bought the Farm

Thank God I'm on the computer at my desk right now. I was coming to work this morning, going north on the Blue Rte. (I-476).
Traffic was sparse as usual at that time in the morning and the sun was just begining to rise. I was doing about 75 mph in the left lane in the 92 SVX, SVXY. I was coming up on a big red tow truck, the kind that tows other trucks. I estimate that he was doing about 65-70 mph. I was almost up to his rear bumper when suddenly all his lights start flashing and he veers to the left right in front of me, goes on the left shoulder slows down to almost a stop and makes a u-turn through a police turnaround in the fence. He then goes the other way. When he veered in front of me I was about a ft. from his rear bumper. I stood on the brake pedal and lifted myself out of the seat. The SVX slowed down straight and true. I think I warped the front rotors but that's a small price to pay. I'm ok, and more importantly, the car is ok. Right now I want to get that SOB and wring his neck.

Sorry for the rant. Addrenelin has a way of making people ramble on.

Close call Larry, glad your okay. :)

Larry, glad you are ok. If you remember, I had a much worse experience with a snow plow over Christmas, where he mada U turn right into me. These drivers of "Emergency" vehicles are totally out of control as they think they have the right of way in every circumstance. Last week I was traveling on 78 and gaining on an oversize load. Just as I got near it, the trailing vehicle just moved over into my lane as the driver was taliking on the radio. Thankfully there was nothing to my left and I was able to move over.

I have learned a very painfull lesson: all vehicles with flashing lights on them are likely to do very dangerous things, so I stay away from them like the Bubonic Plague.

Larry,
Glad you're okay. Yeah, I definitely follow the "stay well back of anything that could crush my car" rule.

It might have been a lot worse, Larry. You could'a had an opened box 'o Chivas on the front seat.

Oh, the humanity!

Ron.

Good to know you still got the reflexes. I,v had to get on them quite a few times and never had any warping problems. The ABS has almost killed me twice thoe, I'm not used to having them so when I plan on locking up the brakes it should skid strait but instead it actually turns toward by anticipated direction instantly.
Then the other day I had to brake for a deer and acctually rememberd that it has ABS so I pressed harder and instead of activating tha ABS it felt like the right rear lifted and hopped, very strange. Damn ABS.

How's the ol' ticker doing?

marlettpat 06-06-2003 08:59 PM

good thing your ok larry :)

ensteele 06-06-2003 09:15 PM

I am glad you and the car are ok. I suppose that if you had hit him, he would have thought you had "MAD COW DISEASE" !! :D

LarryIII 06-07-2003 05:41 AM

Thanks to all for your concern. The guy in the tow truck was not flashing his lights as I approached him. He flipped them on at the last moment then veered in front of me. My ticker is OK.

Last night we went to the Greek Festival in Wilmington. You should all be glad that you didn't see me dance with a hankerchief.

This coming week is the St. "Antney' feast. Can you say canoli and Larry in the same sentence?

SVXRide 06-07-2003 09:03 AM

And Larry became "one with the canoli".

Larry, unbeknownsest to those around him, believed that he had been a canoli in another life.

Walking down the street one day, I noticed an arm sticking out from behind a dumpster in a side alley. Upon closer inspection, I found that it was Larry III suffering from one of his well known "canoli-benders".

okay, so the first one isn't technically a "perfect" sentence...

WOW! (And I don't mean the canoli.)

Jeeze Larry. Take it easy!
