I'm not sure whether your mirror heater will still work if you do this. I took a mirror apart once (not an SVX mirror) and the heating element was a very thin layer bonded to the back of the glass.
On our legacy, a previous owner has glued an aftermarket mirror glass over the original one (which is presumably broken). The heater in the old one still works, but it takes much longer to clear than the proper one on the other side.
