Magazine articles, please contribute what you know

As a lot of you fans will have magazines, possibly some of them rare ones, would you all consider posting the details of any magazine you may have [or know about] that has an article dealing with the SVX?

As part of my nerdy search for all things SVX, I have from time to time bought magazines with SVX articles in them, so I have a few of what's out there.

Minimum useful details would be Name [of magazine] Date published, Title of the article [if there is one] and country published.

Other details like issue number and so on would be useful also, and maybe details like other cars compared if it is a comparison or head to head test. Or first impression. Etc. Etc.

James has put up copies of a lot of articles on his geocities website. Thanks James. BTW, I have good copies of a few of your Black and Whites. If I can get them scanned, I'll give you good copies to put up.

Joe

Hey Joe

My locker contains scans of many of the US articles on the SVX. Have at 'em my friend. :)

Thanks Todd, thanks Earl.

The list above is all UK magazines, you probably noticed. I have a list from James' site, which are mostly Oz mags, with a good few US articles, and the main UK ones.

I will pilfer from your locker with your kind permission, and compile a list of the main US articles, including Canada no doubt, and another list for the Oz/NZ mags.

What I'm trying to achieve with the lists is a comprehensive view on what's out there. This is turn should show us which articles are rare, and so valuable to chase down and include in our archive compilation.

Earl, this might mean we could be needing a separate locker or folder for these when we have good copies of everything.

Thanks for the help,

Joe :)

No problem. I can set it up anytime. Just let me know. :)

Hi Joe. Check this thread out, there's a couple you've missed.

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14072

I remember posting an article from the Sunday Times at one point, but I can't find it now. It may have been on one of the yahoo sites before this one existed. If I find it I'll pass you the details.

Don't forget:
Andy's article in "IM Group Express" about the Torquay meet.
Ian Orris' article in "Unique Cars" about the Gaydon meet.

Thanks for the links Phil. Spot on.

I was avoiding newspaper articles. For no good reason, I suppose, except bias. For one thing, it will/would be more difficult to get your hands on clean copies of the articles, they get binned. [Your Sunday Times one is on James' geocities site BTW]
For another, newspapers tend to put in millions of "we saw it first" type articles. These are culled from manufacturer promotional material, and add very little to the overall information quotient except noise.

What I am hoping to compile is a list of "actually driven" articles from real motoring journalists.

As already noted in your linked thread, the playing field is skewed a bit anyway. It is traditional for the companies to supply a few cars to a load of journalists. This can be good or bad, depending if the cars are picked at random off the boat, or have been "breathed on" by a QA and tune-up squad.

Also, see the issue about the US cars. They get low 0-60 times because the US market is sensitive to drag racing ability [Harrison Ford and George Lucas have a lot to answer for] and less sensitive to handling, which the VTD version is a bit better at.

Harvey is saying that the VTD type gives better rear steering and handling because of the torque split. I would concur with this, but I have two Aussie mags, and one of them complains of the understeer, and for sure they were driving JDM or Oz/UK variants. This is probably because of the very high top gear, rather than the overall gearing. To get the best from the handling, I find you have to drive brave, lock out top gear, and power the car through fast or tight bends in 2 or 3 to get the benefit of extra rear torque split. I imagine the car is nowhere near as controllable on the limit as an Impreza Sti or a Skyline GTR, primarily because of the "lazy" 4EAT.

Just my opinion, but I'm sticking to it.

Joe  :)

Hi guys

Sorry that I have been so quiet of late.

It has been a CONSIDERABLE amount of time since I have been able to do anything with my website, primarily because all the data and images are on my PC back in Sydney.

However, I did manage to scan and upload virtually everything that I had and while it is not the most attractive of sites, I don't think people mind once the info is there.

Any better copies of those B&W articles would be greatly appreciated Joe!

Cheers

James

Your website is great James, particularly the translated JDM stuff. It's the only english site for information about JDM imports.

Jamsvx 11-09-2005 05:45 AM

Thanks!

Credit has to go to PaddlesNZ for the translations though - I have not seen him on here of late which is a pity as he was a wealth of knowledge from the JDM aspect of the SVX

Cheers

James

Hi James

I have to agree with Phil, your site is the definitive one for JDM info.

I'll get you scans of what I have, but not immediately. I keep promising myself a photo scanner, and I'll probably buy a flatbed type at Christmas. When I have all the scans done, and I'll be going for high definition, I will forward them to you.

Phil, I'll update the list with your extras.

I will also put up the list of US and Oz/Kiwi info, such as I have it.

Thanks guys, anybody else with info, please pass it along.

Joe

ensteele 11-09-2005 07:38 PM

I will try to get what I have scanned and will post it on my site. :)

Jamsvx 11-14-2005 05:06 AM

Given your collection, of cars, I would not be surprised if you have the original concept drawings!!

;)
