Tranny slipping in 1st and 2nd

Meet monster anyone?

The wife's svx tranny is slipping. Slips on the 1-2 shift (flares) and seems to slip at higher rpm if I hold it in 2nd gear. I held it in 1st also and it may have slipped a little around 4-5k but it is hard to tell. 3rd and 4th gear are fine- perfect. 2-3 shift is nice and firm.
Up until now it had been the strongest svx tranny I had ever felt. This came on fairly quickly. She said it felt weird earlier this week but tonight was the first time I drove it to confirm.
The rebuild is about 20k old (independent shop). Fluid looks and smells very good.

I am going to change the fluid and filter tomorrow. Maybe do a brake band adjustment if that makes sense after some more research here.

Geh.
Woman has been beating me down for a turbo legacy and a tricycle motor and now with this happens.

Any thoughts or ideas?

I'd look at this thread about band adjustments:

sorry, wish I could offer more insight/help.

Thanks.
So by that, I should tighten the brake band, swap TPS between the 2 cars (mine is fairly new (~2 yrs old) and change the fluid out.

I'll post back the results.

That would be upstate hoodlum speak, dawg. :D

Sounds like brake band to me. TPS usually causes flare in the 2-3.

Randy,
little off the topic....when did you get your new plates? How much does KY charge for custom plates?

A little off topic Bill?

You went from Matt's transmission to Randy's license plate :p

Todd,
Yeah, that's what happens when I've got a house full of 5-6 year old little girls celebrating a birthday (my youngest just turned 6...boy, do I feel old:D )

Your son has a house full of girls for his birthday! Wow - my kind of kid. :D

Update -
Changed tranny fluid and filter. Took a test drive.
Confirmed there is no slipping in 1st, 3rd, 4th.
Only slips in 2nd - and will slip throughout 2nd at any rpm if I stomp on it. It felt like it got progressively worse as the tranny got warmer.

I haven't heard of only 2nd gear going?

Brake band adjustment only controls shifts, right? So that wouldn't help me if it slips while in gear (tranny in 2, manual mode)

I'm puzzled.

Matt,
Okay, let's save that kind of thinking until he's around 15:D
Seriously, my youngest is a girl, as is my middle...Austin is the oldest, and he's 12.
-Bill (feeling progressively older the more he talks about his kids:eek: - weren't we talking about transmissions....)
