Updated Exhuast, Help.

Okay so here goes...
i took my svx into a muffler shop and wanted to get some custom magnaflow exhaust done. The guy was retarded and talked me into a bunch of stuff (me being clueless at the time) and took off my main cat. He also cut where the pipe comes right off of the two precats(leaving them there) but removing the sort of natural Y-pipe that had 2 pipes comign out(to go into the 2-1 cat) that WAS there and put in a 2-1 Y pipe I have a resonation at 3k rpms and it is due to this and now i am wondering if i have to get the whole front end off the headers (precats annd pipe and flange) to put on another 2-1 cat?
If you need any more explanation just ask, Thanks
Ben

Your new cat is a single in /out?

Do you have a resonator between your new cat and muffler?

benjaminbreeze 04-14-2007 12:18 PM

there is no cat right now...
It is just a Y-pipe (i know BADDDD)...
he cut the pipe that LED to the cat that WAS there...
now i want to put on a 2-1 cat the same way and wondering if i need to get the whoel front or just the flanges or if i can get it custom done..
and yes there is a resonator

why not have him fix his own mistake? there seems to be alot of resonation problems when people do custom exhaust on these cars... are you sure there isnt any thing loose? and what was his reasoning for removing the cat anyway?

i wanted more air flow and was going to get a high flow cat and he suggested no cat for more flow (i had no idea).
im 100% sure this is the problem now...
but i need to know if i have to get the whole front end to do the job...
if anyone can help me PLEASE post... thank you

Just go to a different place and tell them to put a cat back where it is supposed to go.

Okay Please READ MY FIRST POST.
sorry. HE CUT the pipe RIGHT after the precats...(took out the pipe that would conveniently attach to a 2-1 cat)
there is no flange to attach a new cat to just two pipes...
do i need to get the full peice or can something be fabricated or what?

You don't need a flange. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...tes/indiff.gif
They have welding equipment and they have clamps and they have pipe and they have cats. You don't need to completely rebuild the front end of the exhaust just to insert a cat, but they might have to cut off the new pipe to get a new cat to fit.

The guy you went to seems to not know what he is doing. I would not go back there unless he is willing to fix his screw up for cheap, or for free. Even then, I would not trust someone who just assumes to know the best way to tune a car.

Any reasonable exhaust shop can take what you have currently and bend up some pipe to fit and install a cat. Bring it in and get a quote.
