these guys claim to be selling the OEM product for $44. No first hand knowledge - too much time spent cruising the web with roadrunner cable modem setup |
I got mine from the subaru parts place for 49 bucks. :P

I've been thinking about getting a new remote since my wife lost/missplaced hers but was unwilling to pay the dealer price.
So when I read this post I jumped at the chance to get an OEM remote for $44 bucks. I ordered one from Keylessride but I didn't have the remote with me when I ordered it. There was a place there for the FCC number (on the back of the remote) but they said it was optional so I ordered without it. [FCC G57315T x 1600] The remote came over the weekend and it was a generic 2 button remote FCC EZS469. I called and the guy said I must have an aftermarket keyless entry system cause the original SVX remote had 2 buttons. I told hime mine was one button and he said "that won't work". He told me to email him the FCC number and he would see if he could get me a replacment or just a refund. I'm awaiting his reply. I searched my SubaruSVX.com CD-ROM and found out about the security system "upgrade" which apparently replaced the original 2 button remote with the one button most of us now have. I'll keep you posted. |

Is a single button better? |
Yes, on the original, if you opened the case, there were two buttons on the inside (not visible on the outside). The theory is (though never has been substantiated) that you could then program one remote to unlock two SVXes, depending upon whether you programmed the remote by pushing "high" on the button or, low. I now have two SVXes, and an "original" style remote, so I can now test this theory. The remotes I have for the first SVX I bought (one from the dealer, one from another member) only have ONE button. Again, you'd never know there were two buttons unless you had the case open.

my wife's WRX has two buttons - one to arm/lock, the other to disarm/unlock. when you hit unlock, it only unlocks the driver's door. you have to hit it again to unlock all the doors. what a PITA!!! i tell her my one button does it all :D then she challenges me to a race :(

Since we are on the subject of remotes, the horn "beep" to indicate arming is quite muted. Is this a function of the horn loudness (or lack of) itself? Is there a way to increase the volume? Would moding to an air horn help or hinder the effect? I would fear that the brief activation may not even build enough pressure form the compressor to toot the horns. Perhaps a louder set of electric horns might work better.
Any comments from experience would be much appreciated. Matt |

Randy, thank you. I saw your set up and Dan's air horns but I am concerned that alghough louder, the very brief actuation of the arming signal may not be long enough to get the air horns going. I once had air horns and there seemed to be a brief delay until the compressor reached enough pressure to sound the horns.
I am thinking of mounting a couple of electic horns as you did and maybe using the existing horns somewhere in the back. Thanks again, Matt |
