Convert 60' times to 0-60 mph
Anyone know if there is a formula or method for converting 60' times to 0-60 mph? Even an estimate?
I've got good timeslips for the 60' time, but the speedo is off enough that it would be a total guess how quickly we can get it from 0-60 mph. Thanks! -Paul |

That's a little rough to do when you're driving down a dragstrip!:)

Simple answer:
0-60mph time = 0.733 x (60'time squared) It won't be entirely accurate since it assumes constant acceleration. Maths below so it can be verified: Your time to travel 60 feet from standstill is "t" seconds. First we calculate distance in metres (s): s = 60feet x 0.3048 = 18.288metres Then we use the formula s=ut+0.5*a*t*t ut is initial speed * time (= zero) so we can ignore that bit. so the formula is 18.288 = 0.5 * a * t * t which simplifies to: a = 36.576 / (t * t) This will give your acceleration (a) in metres per second per second. Then we use that value in another formula v = u + a * T. u is initial speed (zero) so we ignore that bit and rearrange the formula as T=v/a. I'm using a capital T to distinguish it from the t we used in the other formula. v = 60mph * 0.44704 = 26.8224 metres per second. so your 0-60 time (T) = 26.8224 / (36.576 / t * t ) which simplifies to: T=(26.8824 * t * t) / 36.576 T=0.733(recurring) * t * t Phil. |
I modified my above formula using your 13.8 quarter mile figure.
Came out at 6.36 seconds 0-60. a = 402.366 metres / 0.5 * 13.8 * 13.8 = 4.226 metres per second per second. T = 26.8824 / 4.226 = 6.36 But as I said before, the formulas assume constant acceleration, wheras this is never the case in reality. Your speedo may be more accurate than this method. Phil. |
svxhunter this may not be what you want, but here's a link to a calculator that estimates your 0-60 time from your 1/8 mile time: 0-60mph Calculator

Very nice collection of calculators there :)
if you wan't a "own", just paste this to a file and call it 0-60.htm Code:

WooHoo.
My crappy clutch run yielded: 1/8 time: 9.701 1/8 trap: 74.68 0-60: 6.23 Cant wait to see what the new engine and clutch do :) phil |
Holy Mackeral!
1/8 time: 8.901 1/8 trap: 79.04 0-60: 5.13 !!! Is that right? I can't believe it!!! :D :D :D Am I doing this right? An entire day full of timeslips yields sub 6 second times on every single pass, except the NA passes which are still mid 6 seconds. That is exciting! You guys are great- Thanks for the help! |

Nope- 6.68. That was a 15.147 1/4 mile @ 91.77

That's right! Your SVX was flying...
I put the 1/8 mile numbers from my 13.64 run (8.816 @ 81.53) in the Lightning into the calculator and got a 4.77 time. Not bad for my ol' 4600lb truck!!! ;) -Chike Quote:

svxhunter read this: 0-60mph calculator explained
It explains why using the 1/8 mile time gives you a reasonably accurate estimation of your true 0-60mph time. -Chike Quote:

School bus fully loaded = 47.325 seconds
LOL!! :D :D Thanks! -P |
