transmission slips from 4 to 3
At normal cruising speed the transmission intermitantly slips from 4th to 3rd. It will shift back immediately if I back off on the accelerator. If in cruise control it will stay in 3rd for a while and then shift back to 4th. Question - is this a common tranny failure? Can this be remedied any way (other than replacement) Will it progressively get worse? *any comment, advise, ridicule or donations welcome!

anything been done recently? like a band adjustment or removal/failure of the dropping resistor?

No, only a tranny flush (new fluid). I just read the other threads so will check out your sugesstions - Thanks!

One thing to look at is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). It may be sending a dirty signal to the tranny causing the downshifts.

142k. It was doing it before the flush. I will check the TPS and the resistor before I try a band adjustment. Thanks for the help!
