two unrelated questions
 

1) My grey leather seats are in pretty good shape, but the tell-tale hair-line cracks are showing the white backing. Is there anyway to fix, mitigate, or hide this?

2) How the heck do you get the underside of the back deck off without tearing the "rivets" or the material? I am trying to change a burned up wiper motor.

I used a long pry bar which was flat. I bent the material down far enough to get the bar inbetween, and then pryed the plastic fasteners off. They just poped back in when I got done. Good luck. The wiper part is very straight forward when you finally get in there. :)

For the leather, there is nothing you can do to remove the cracks (unless you get new seat covers). To prevent further cracking, the leather needs to be kept soft. A good leather cleaner and conditioner every couple of months will work. Good ones I have tried are Zymol and Lexol. I know in the past there have been discussions on what product is best. A quick search should turn up a few threads.

Hi Cascott, Get some "Shoe Cream" like shoe polish, only creamier. I use a couple of different colors from Black to Grey. Clean the leather. I use Lexol. Then apply shoe cream, rubbing into the cracks, and then wipe off/buff. You can wear rubber gloves to keep the polish off your hands. Be sure to rub out well to remove all traces of wax so as to not stain anything you don't want stained. I use old bath towels and wash cloths that are clean and do not have fabric softner on/in them. You will have to do this on a regular bases, but it does make it look better and gives a sort of rich glow to the leather. YMMV. Take care, BOBB

One big lesson learned: BEFORE you buy a replacement rear wiper motor, and BEFORE you spend 2 hours putting it in....and certainly BEFORE you have to admit your stupidity to your wife :D....
