Gauging interest: 30th Anniversary SVX Meet in 2022
.
The title says it all. The first time we did it, back in 2002 in Lafayette, Indiana, was in commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the Subaru SVX. A most remarkable event remembered by everyone in attendance and still talked about today Fast forward 15 years. In 2017 there was once again the gathering of old and new friends in the same place; this time to celebrate the 25 years of the SVX. And recent discussions have indicated the there is some genuine interest and enthusiasm about returning to Indiana in 2022 to commemorate the thirtieth birthday of the SVX. Once you wrap your mind around this, the possibility of doing anniversary celebrations every so many years becomes more alluring. Similar to college reunions or wedding anniversaries, which are held every five or ten years these are not yearly events The annual Reading Meets have been in existence almost as long and they sometimes get taken for granted. I can look back over photos taken at various Reading meets and sometimes am at a loss of whether they were taken at IV, VI or VII. I am sure there is room and interest for supporting both types of meets. One is more regional, predictable and low-key. The Reading meet is a true tradition and would never be held anywhere but Morgantown. The other is a more of a commemoration or celebration of a milestone and could be held anywhere. Both are about the people and the cars. But wouldn’t it be so cool to attend the 50 year celebration of the SVX in 2042 and have every SVX in attendance displaying antique or historic tags and be emissions exempt? . |

I won't lie, having the events on the east coast or Midwest is a bummer for folks on the west coast.
I am interested in planning for the 30th anniversary. |
Re: Gauging interest: 30th Anniversary SVX Meet in 2022
I would love to make it to a big meet, but the 4500 mile round trip from the West coast feels a bit long. I guess I could fly out, but then showing up to an SVX meet in a Dodge Neon (or what ever rental cars are these days) would feel a bit defeating. Anybody in the area who has an SVX on turo.com or something like that?
(Flyout, buy an SVX, drive it home? That's less than 2.5K miles.) Cheers, Ian. |

Here is a possible solution. The eastern SVXers go to Lafayette, Indiana.
The western SVXers go to Earl's for a 3 day fish fry. :D |

Interested.......

All kidding aside. I'm interested.

Agreed, its a sizeable drive for us on the west coast. Unfortunately the half way point between East and West coast is probably somewhere in Kansas or Nebraska.
Somewhat interested though. Probably too early to see if SIA would even accommodate us (if that was part of the reunion plans) but they have had a complete Executive turnover with Tom Easterday retiring last year. At least from the 2002 reunion, not sure about the 2017 one as I wasn't there. |

We are planning something similar for 2022 in Australia.
There were only 249 SVXs sold in Australia so won't be a large gathering! |

I'm interested. Been wanting to do a decent road trip, and 2+ years is a reasonable time frame to get my SVX roadworthy again!

This is 2.6 miles (4.2 km) northwest of the center of Lebanon, Kansas, approximately 12 miles (19 km) south of the Kansas–Nebraska border. . |
Re: Gauging interest: 30th Anniversary SVX Meet in 2022
I'll be there, assuming they will have us again at SIA.
I'll even organize some merch. like from 2002. |
Re: Gauging interest: 30th Anniversary SVX Meet in 2022
I will pose these questions :)
How many of us have an SVX that are willing to drive that far & How many SVX's at this point can actually make that drive  |

From Calgary, the shortest distance according to Maps is ~ 2760 Km (~1725 mi) one way. So say 6000 km both ways including driving around and sidetrips, etc. At my car's current mileage and age, I definitely feel my car could easily do that trip, and it's actually close to the current mileage (km)/year that my car has been driven. So, in answer to your questions, I do and I think I do, lol... In the intervening 2 years or so before 2022, I could be sure that the few small issues that may discourage me from driving my SVX that far could easily be remedied, and I could 'bank' some mileage by driving it a little less.... hmmm. I think it could be a fabulous event, who knows, maybe Subaru will have released her spiritual successor by that time... It really is time for a new 'halo' car... /scratches chin thoughtfully\ I have a cousin in Sioux Falls, SD... it's kinda on the way... |
Re: Gauging interest: 30th Anniversary SVX Meet in 2022
I'm totally interested! I make a trip to Lafayette at least once a year anyway.
