Russian Cars
 

Now everyone seems to just automatically give russian cars a bad rap; badly built, ugly, slow, and recycled designs from 40 years ago. and for the most part, that's absolutely true. there have been some good ones, the Lada Niva SUV is a perfectly competent and reliable little off-roader, the Riva is extremely reliable and meant to run in siberia with no oil changes and mended with a brick.

If I had the chance, I'd seriously consider test driving one of these

I completely agree. The Lada Niva is one of the best offroaders for snow use. It got upgraded over the years, its gearbox was "tailored" and made better in the past 10 years. For some reason its engine did not go beyond 1.7L (4cyl). The owners in my country used to swap Abarth old engines instead or the engine of this car which is a 2.0L

With the right combination of gearbox and engine, you would have an awesome little 4x4. Just do a deep and accurate study on these cars if you consider to buy one in the future...

a friend of mine is seriously considering going on a hunt for a Niva as a daily driver, I keep telling him to look in canada for one, but they're hard to find in North America

I only buy a niva for offroad use...
And if it is hard to find, why would he want one? Can he find parts for it?

ebay is awash with parts, original and ones that will fit
