gas tank removal
Can anybody help me with instructions on removing the gas tank.....I have to replace the fuel line that goes from under the car up to the fuel pump.
thanks |
Check my locker. I scanned the service manual pages for it in there.

Do you still have this? I need to replace the darn hardlines... |
The short version? Remove the entire back end of the car. Diff, axles, suspension links, subframe, the works.
It may be possible to get at the lines you need to fix through the access panel under the rear seat. If you do end up dropping the tank, check the brake lines that are back there. It may be good preventative maintenance to replace them while they're accessible. |

Don't be fooled, the guy in the diagram may be smiling while doing it, but i doubt you will be. This is significantly easier on a lift, doing it on jack stands would be a huge pain.
So there's a burst in the hard line between the tank and the front? Can you relieve the pressure on it, find the hole and repair the hole? If so, that sounds significantly easier. |
Yes, I'm pretty sure I found the hole. Just not quite sure it's the only one.
It's one of the hard lines just outside the tank and before the hose. I'm sure I WILL try patching the hole first, "just so I can drive it to the shop", and then drive around like that for several months at least. What I'm wondering though is, is it possible for the tank to break or crack where the lines pass through? |
OH! And thanks for the scans!
Even though they confirmed my worst 'working on the car on the weekend' fear... |

If you remove the inspection hatch, you can see this. |
Sweet, ok, I'll have to see what I can do this weekend.
Thanks guys! |
