Man, that thing still floating around? The article is at least 10yrs old now :p

My first Subaru was a 82 GLF. I got 2 very expencive speeding tickets in that thing :o They are deceptively fast. 5spd 2wd and not weighing much = fun.
Now, I had a 84 GL in that color with gold Enkies. I threw a weber on it and traded it before I go into trouble with it

I had an 81 GLF 2dr coupe 5speed FWD that I bought back in 1996 from a retired old man. He bought it new in 81 and he gave me the original window sticker too. It only had 49k miles on it, and I loved that car. Averaged 32 mpg on the highway. It only failed me once, when the distributor went on it. Wish I still had it today with the gas prices. I only paid $800 for it, and sold it for $500 five years later when I bought my first legacy a 93 L wagon for $1k. I also owned two 83 GL's which were both FWD as well, and an 84 GL10 wagon 4x4 with digital dash 4speed manual HiLo 4WD, hill holder.:D That car was so badly rusted, that the rear axles were about to fall out. Overall I loved the early 80's 1.8's, they had no timing belt to change and would run forever, but they rusted so fast. Cant even find any today, there harder to find than an SVX or an XT6.

It's the XT/XT6, the precursor to the SVX and a DARN nice lil car! It was called Vortex in Australia, and Alcyone in Japan
Thanks to Moodybluser, and the Beautiful Molly for her pic.

That wasn't ugly.

Sort of. XT = Alcyone, XT Turbo = Alcyone VR, XT6 = Alcyone VX, SVX = Alcyone SVX

Oddly enough, I have seen an SVX prototype picture that said "XT" on it. (And 4WD Turbo)

I saw that same pic. It's an early clay model. Before they widened the track on the prototypes. I'm guessing that the SVX was to be Legacy based originally. THen they figured out that to get the levels of comfort, and handling they needed to start with a clean sheet.

I owned a 1984 GL TURBO. I looked a lot like the pictures above. It came with an oil cooled turbo that Subaru modified after release to water cooled. It was fuel injected and had a digital dash. Not much power but it was fun to drive.
