ECUtune Stage 1 installed, found strange chip inside
2 Attachment(s)
Well I installed my stage one chip today and when I opened the ECU I found this inside. Anyway I called ECUtune and spoke with him about it and he had never heard of the chip. I'm going to send it to him and he said that he could read the chip to see what is on it. He thought it might have been a rebuilt ECU. The resistor in the J1 spot had been cliped at the top but was still in place as you can see in the photo.

Could it be one of those Australian power chips?

Could be, but the one I had said Superchip on it and didn't have the little sticky note thing.

could it be the subaru TSB chip like the on in my wife's old svx?

Still, it was a factory chip more than likely, at least that is my deduction

It looks like a Powerchip from the Australian company. They are of that configuration, just a chip, not an entire circuit board, like Ecutune. I had one for my 92 Teal that I bought in 1998. Put it in and noticed exactly 0 difference. At that time, they were a very ad hoc, built it in their garage kind of informal opertation. Set me back $400, not well spent.

After installing the ECUtune chip and driving it a few days I'm noticing more of a difference. The flat spot seemed to dissapear right away and now the more I drive it the better it gets.

did yours have the same type of hand written label on it?

Don't remember clearly. It did have some kind of label. I seem to remember it was a paper stick-on, wasn't a Powerchip label, just some type of identificatrion number.

how confident are you that the chip he found and pictured is a powerchip.

Mine had a hand written label on it before I installed the Stage 1 chip. The bead was also crushed.
