Error Codes in a 97
The information in the svxipedia about error codes is in regard to pre OBD II cars. Are their as many error codes in my 97? Will they always be indicated on the OBD II scanner. specifically, my AT Oil Temp light flashes after i start the car 9 times i think (after it would have normally gone out). can anyone tell me what this means? is it a transmission error code?
thanks in advance. |
OBD2 cars have more errors. An OBD 2 scanner will read them. As for the flashing AT Oil Temp light that's a tranny code and I'm not sure if the normal diagnostics will show the code or not.
|
how do i read the tranny code then.. anyone know? without a power light to blink do i just count the blinks of the at temp light? can anyone else with experience with a 97 help me out?
|
That light will indicate the tranny codes. Try the test procedure from the SVXipedia on http://svx-iw.com to see if it works.
|
so the at temp light acts like the power light for transmission codes in the later model years?
|
For indicating codes...yes. It won't indicate "power" mode.

I am having the same flashing problem at the moment. Flashes about 16 times. Have you checked the trans fluid level? If you figure it out please let us know.
|
When there's an electrical error it will flash exactly 16 times every time you start the car. Try the procedure in the SVXipedia on http://svx-iw.com to get the actual code.

duty solenoid c
it stopped flashing all the time when i start the car, but when i did a code check i got code 24, duty solenoid c. Is it possible that it is not always malfunctioning? can anyone point me to a good how to thread for solenoid c? some initial searching i have found that people are paying aroun $1k for this work. OUCH! i cannot afford that right now. also i am getting none of the symptoms. it seems like my awd is working ok. i can certainly feel it when driving in snow. maybe it is on all the time and i am not noticing. (i will check that out later).

Yes mine is flashing 16 times on start up. Fresh rebuild with level ten stage 2 and valve body. Will an obd II tester (it's a 96) return a code? Canadian Tire here I come?
|
Svxstarship, Have you tried the non OBD-II code check on your tranny?
|
Do you mean checking using the probes in the footwell and checking how many times the power light flashes. But there is no power light on a 96! right. I could be wrong.
|
Actually I mean following the directions for checking TCU codes. It involves moving the shifter in a particular pattern to reveal the codes.
http://svx-iw.com ->SVXipedia -->Checking Error Codes --->How to Check Transmission (TCU) Error Codes If that works for you submit feedback on that article and I will update it to indicate that it works on all model years. |
SVXipedia, Step 3 in performing the self diagnostic test " Turn ignition switch ON and make sure POWER indicator lamp comes on."
Unfortunately there is no power light on odbII 96 & 97's. It's at my local exotic car mechanic at the moment, I'll see what he has to say tomorrow. |
Replace "POWER" with "AT TEMP" :D
