power lose

As I was driving home tonight, my RPM's went from 2500 to 3000. I heard a noise under the car just before this. Once I got home, I checked under the car and noticed my front exhaust was broken in the Y section. This was welded previously. Could this be the reason for my car losing power? No lights went on the dash. Any ideas? I was driving at 70 MPH with 2500 RPM's then it shot up to 3000 RPM's and my speed droped to 55 MPH. I hope it's not the trans!

Yes, the power of the car is greatly affected by exhaust.

A similar problem happened to me with the exhaust and i couldn't believe the difference in power.

I'm trying to understand why....would it have anything to do with the oxygen sensors? I'm sure the air/fuel mixture would affect the cars performance and the sensors tell the computer how to mix right? But Dan said no dash lights.

I'm thinking the oxygen sensors also.

Don't think you would get a light 'cause the sensors are working properly,
just way out of normal from the change in the exhaust.

All I know is that it made a big difference in power and the way it shifted....
I even thought my tranny was acting up.

As soon as I had the exhaust fixed it all went away.

The brake in the pipe is after the sensors but before the main cat. I'm glad to hear that ZMan thought it was the trans too when he had the same problem. The exhaust will be fixed on Monday. I'll post the results, I hope the problem goes away as ZMAN mentioned. Thanks to all.

After you have it fixed the return to normal won't be instantaneous, but you won't have to drive it for too long before it's back to normal.

If I remember correctly it's within one day.

I hope it works out for you as well -- please let us know.
