New Stereo for my SVX
So, I have a bunch of stereo equipment here from my old USAC comp car. Parts were all bought in 1995-96.
I was going to put it all into the SVX, but limited space, and not feeling like doing an upgraded alternator yet has mellowed that plan. So instead I swapped my friend my 4 12" Kicker solobarics for his 2 10" dvc fosgate punch 10". Bought an eclipse 4 channel amp on ebay to run the mids and highs. Cheap Pioneer head unit from walmart :-( Specs: Pioneer DEH-1200MP head unit (Temp deck, my pioneer DEH-P825 died during install!) Infinity Kappa 6.5's all around 2 -10" Fosgate Punch hx2 Orion 225HCCA (subs) Eclipse 3640 (mids and highs) Orion 200SPX crossover Phoenix Gold Stiffing Cap. Install Pics: Lets remove the necessary parts and arrange them neatly. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1401/...b874ce04_b.jpg How did I even get sound out of this? http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1317/...13dd7760_b.jpg Thats better! http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1292/...10958192_b.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1268/...f8faa6f0_b.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1297/...0cae769d_b.jpg Tweeters: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1199/...6ec7561c_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3596/...fafa4ec8_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3361/...9a3f33db_b.jpg Bye-Bye 6x9's http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3162/...c6ec20c2_b.jpg Run some Wire to the Trunk: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3334/...e3a4343e_b.jpg |

Wow, that setup looks reallly nice! How much did it cost you do do everything and how much time did it take you?

Re: New Stereo for my SVX
The eclipse amp I payed like $40.
Walmart head unit was $94. Some screws, Luann, hinge, crimps, heat shrink, solder, & epoxy. $25 Everything else I had. Time: It took us more than 40 hours. Over a week and a half period. Working until 4am some days. Changed crossovers, and EQs, went through about 4 redesigns during the install. 12 hours of that was trying to get the broken DEH-P825 to work. We ended up trying every pin to every pin. 24x14 is a lot of pins... Car fought us every bit of the way. In the end the answer was to just junk all stock wiring and run everything new to the trunk. Passive crossovers for mids and highs http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1412/...ec730274_b.jpg |

I'm curious why you ditched the 6x9s in the back. Was it because you had the 6.5s laying around or is it your preference? I've heard of audiophiles not liking oblong shaped speakers, which seems logical, but I prefer the larger surface area and high end of my 6x9/3ways (no subs in mine, so I need all the bass the rears can offer). |
Re: New Stereo for my SVX
I have had the 6.5's in the rear on all my cars for the last 15years.
I just prefer them over the 6x9. The 6x9 do make more mid bass than my 6.5's but the 6.5 are cleaner. And yes because I just had them laying around. And yes them back speakers are no fun: Remove Rear Speaker http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1256/...33b42387_b.jpg Install rear speaker: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1304/...9e780cd6_b.jpg |
Re: New Stereo for my SVX
From what I gathered from previous posts, the oval ones are the best designs for our rear windshields and how they're contoured.

Re: New Stereo for my SVX
+1 for the Orion! Does it shake your teeth?

Re: New Stereo for my SVX
It shakes enough. It sounds good.
There is some rattle that i need to address in the rear deck area. I was always into SQ over DB. I love my Old school Orion amps. The 225 was my mids and highs amp in the comp car. That had a 2100HCCA pushing 4 kicker 12"s. 4 12's in a 95 grand am = cannot think loud. (142db-146db depending on weather) It drilled lyrics into your brain. Loud enough it over powers your internal voice, you literally cannot think. I still have the 2100HCCA, but its current draw by itself is more than our stock alternator. Comp car had 185amp alternator with a dedicated secondary output for the amplifiers. 0gauge wire, 2 1 fared caps, dual 150amp fuses upfront, a 120amp fuse in the block for it. Idle increase to 1,200RPM. Even with all this, if turned on my rear defrost while idle it would over draw the alternator. |
Re: New Stereo for my SVX
My first sub was an Orion Cobalt 10"..... and attached to a simple bridged Pioneer amp in a ported box, simply embarrassed the other clowns in high school running dual 12's.

Re: New Stereo for my SVX
Great system, I am jealous! Where did you end up drilling and running the power wire for the amp?
