No (Ka'pasch) from gas tank?

I'm sure it's probably nothing but I have to ask, is the car not releasing pressure when you unscrew the gas cap normal? (low full or otherwise).

Every car I've ever had when filling for gas and unscrewing the gas cap has given me that Kapasch gas depressurizing sound... should I be looking for something or just write it off as simply pure paranoia in my mind?

:o

I didn't think the gas cap did it when the tank was full.

However, this may mean that your gas cap isn't holding pressure and needs to be replaced.

I always hear the pressure difference on my '92. I have a recollection that back under warranty my gas cap was replaced as an unofficial factory recall because it wasn't holding pressure.

Hearing that sounds depends on many variables such as temperature, amount of gas in tank, etc. Sometimes I hear it and sometimes not. I wouldn't freak out just yet, based on that alone.

Well, I've yet to hear it once for the past few months I've owned the car. With all the conditions and variant temps/fuel. I'll replace the gas cap and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

sorry to hijack, but i had a gas cap problem where i started to open it and heard more pressure than normal, so i proceeded to open it slowly and the pressure wasnt dissappating and when i finally had the cap unscrewed all the way, gas shot out of the tank:confused::confused:

really bizzare

my only explanation would be that the temp was warm/hot when i filled up and then when i opened it later that the temp was much cooler, but theres no way that was the case. temps during those times were very similar
??
