What else have you fitted a EG33 into?

Oks so I just thought I would start a thread on here to find out what you have fitted a EG33 into. ( Apart from your SVX  )

I was going to put a EG33 into brumby but ive sold that so i have a spare EG33 to go into another project of some sort.

Re: What else have you fitted a EG33 into?

  • I remember seeing a UK Brat/Brumby converted to use a 3.3 engine from the SVX. It was for sale on eBay. Good acceleration.
  • Lately there have been discussions on the Network about an Impreza running a 3.3 flat six.
  • On top of that there is some guy in Oz or NZ who has put in an EG33 to his '99 Sti Impreza coupe. He is using a turbo and expects maybe 700hp plus. Not too sure if it is finished yet.
  • It seems to be pretty common in Western Australia to buy SVX front cuts from Japan and install the EG33 in sand rails or dune buggys. They race them there a lot.
  • I have seen a photo of a very professional fitting of an EG33 in a power boat.
  • The most common crossover fitment for the flat six is to the VW Vanagon, replacing the flat four engine under the floor. [They may also be known as the Caravelle. Vanagon is the USA name for them]
  • Another possible donor that has been converted is the Porsche 914/6. It fits easily and makes it really move along smartly.
  • At least one person has opted to fit a Subaru 3.3 to a Porsche 911.
I expect there are a few more out there. Those are the ones I can think of from the top of my head.

Joe :)

I mentioned that above Phil; chromed manifolds, the works. Looked great.

I also forgot one guy used an SVX engine to make a motorbike, or rather a trike, a three wheeler. There are pictures around. It would be an interesting machine, 230 hp in a chassis weighing not much more than the engine and box. :)

Wouldn't suprise me to see one in a boat or a plane. BMW= "Barvarian Motor Works" inwhich the orginal company was an aircraft co. If it is a well constructed piece of machinery, why not. Carl Benz in vented the Boxer engine.

The EG33 is commonly used in aviation as is the EJ25. The boxer layout works well in planes.

Re: What else have you fitted a EG33 into?

I haven't done it yet, but here's my future intent with an EG33 swap.

I have a 1972 Toyota Corolla station wagon (parents bought it new). Pretty rusty, so it will get nearly completely tubed out/caged. It'll get a wide body kit. It'll get add on aero 'aids' circa 1986 Group B rally style (think Peugeot 205 T16). It should weigh about 1500 lbs, soaking wet....

I will use a Mendeola off-road straight-cut dog engagement transaxle, with a Subaru adapter plate, and install the EG33 as a mid-engine/RWD setup in the back of the wagon. I'll throw everything at the engine I know how to, but still keep it N/A. I'm hoping after some more R & D with Jack's Impreza and another project car, I will have the know-how to get about 450-475 whp from it.

Then I'm going hillclimbing (tarmac) with it.:D

I only decided the Corolla because I already have it, and it's uber-lightweight. It weighs 1970 lbs stock, fully street legal. I'm pretty sure the EG33 is lighter than the stock 2TC engine (iron block) so if I can hit my target weight I'll have about a 3.3:1 power to weight ratio. About the same as a 400 lb bike with 120 whp.

There's a REALLY cool thread here where a guy installed an EG33 into a Porsche 911. I remember because the thing sounded like pure sex!
