How do you install a battery tiedown and tray?
 

Ok so my battery doesnt hold charge anymore... been about almost 2 years since I bought the SVX. It didnt come with a tray or tiedown and I didnt know it would affect a batterys ability to hold charge (I used a bungee deal) until I did a search and found it loses charge without a proper tie. Is it really necessary to get a tray? Is there an alternative, like a piece of plastic or something.

Also, how do I install a battery tiedown? I have not the slightest clue where to start.... I tried looking for instructions on here but came up with none. I would prefer a tiedown from kragens or something I can get.. I cant cut metal as I have no tools to drill nor cut, I only have wrenches and such.

can someone help a noob? :O i dont want to blow money on a new batt and have it go out in 2 years.

Hey go to Subaruparts.com and you can order the following parts:
You need
1) 82182AA30 - Battery holder bracket (1)
2) 82161PA000 - J Hooks (2)
3) 82122PA000 - Battery tray (1)
4) 023706006 - J Hook nuts (2)

Place the battery tray into the frame area it sits on....place battery on top, then set the battery holder bracket on top of the battery....you will picture how the J hooks fit from this... Take the J hooks and hook the "J" part to the car..under the battery tray..(there will be a small hole to hook it to) do this on both sides...so then the J hooks will have the threads upward coming through the holder bracket on each side of the battery. Last run the nuts on each hook....you may have to wiggle the battery to get it set just right between the hooks..... That's it...then rehook up you positive and negative connections and make sure you have a good ground from the negative properly attached to the metal on the frame.... Also make sure your connections are clean and no buildup on them. You could be getting some bad charges because the connections may be corroded...Try a wire brush.

You can get universal tie down equipment for your battery at most auto parts stores Pep Boys, Advance Auto, etc.)

The tie down "J" or "L" bolts and nuts come in one package. Thet are usually 1/4"x20 and are threaded at one end. They may have to be cut a little off the end to make sure they don't kit the hood. If there are different lengths available, get the shortest length you can find.

The battery brackets are universal and fit most standard battery widths (which is just under 7")

The only thing you would have to get from Subaru is the battery tray. This also secures the battery and keeps battery acid from coming into contact with the frame. The tall side of the pan (faces the engine) has a built-in guide for the bolt to slide through to further secure the battery pan against movement.) Don't skimp on this part.

The battery pan by itself is about $14.00. You should be able to get everything you need OEM for about $36.00. Someone here may have spares.
