radiator

Can someone help me about info on where to get a radiator head. mine has cracked and letting out coolant

Hi and welcome to the site.

The top tank cracking is very common. Some people attempt to patch but that doesn't seem to last very long.

You can get a new OEM rad for about $300-$350 and there's also an option for an all aluminium rad. More details in THIS thread.

You should be able to get any decent metalcraft place to do a replacement one for less than the OEM one from Subaru - there are two guys in Sydney (not on the board) who did this

Maybe grab an issue of Fast 4s/Hot 4's (!) or a Street Machine magazine and look for an advert on custom radiators - Micks Metalcraft in Sydney is supposed to be excellent - they may be able to recommend someone up your way

Welcome to the board by the way - can you tell everyone a bit about your car and how you came to join our merry band!

Cheers

James

At the time I did one of mine, OEM was $1400 ?? Anyway, I got OEM from the states along with quite a fair bit of new OEM gear on eBay for the same price including shipping.

Including bearings, manuals, window winder button, etc etc...

Parts are the same. Worth a look.

Hi JoAnn, the company that make the aluminum radiator, are PRW, they are up in Queensland. May be worth a call.
Welcome to the group.
Harvey. ;)

I had this happen a few months back, took it to a radiator specialist, and they managed to fit the top tank from an Impreza on to it. It needed a bit of modification, but works fine as a replacement. Only cost about NZ$200 too.

Radiator head

I have a spare radiator which i had an alloy head put on as i grew tired of waiting for the one i bought on ebay america [$832 landed in Aust] to clear customs 6 weeks to arrive. I never used it as it arrived as the day after the 1 from states. It cost me $600 to have done and pressure tested but will last for ever [he will possibly do cheaper now as mine was the 1st SVX]. The guy i used is in adelaide David Hoggins auto if anyone needs 1 done he knows how to do now. PWR was unable to do radiator back then without sending mine for template and allowing 10 weeks plus to manufacture but have since made a batch of 400 and i believe are or have made some more they are in QLD and i use them in my race car and they do a magic job. Probably alot cheaper than when i enquired before $1200 but they will last a life time unlike the OE one. If anyone wants parts for there SVX ex USA and your not in a hurry i use bmibay@bmicad.com they have most things radiators, sunvisors, interior mirrors and the uswell SVX problem parts at very reasonable prices and will find parts for you there if they dont have them [new parts that is]. If any one wants my spare radiator i will sell for $650 + frt and it is in the OE box i recieved mine in from USA. Can post picture if required. Also SVX being wrecked in NSW look up Trading Post site for more detail.

Just had a look at Brookvales Spares website - that is a 1995 one!

Looks to have been a side impact - anyone going to swing by and see what the VIN on it is?

:(

That's the guy I got my stuff from.

If you use him, get a PayPal account set up and make sure you remove the limit from it BEFORE you buy stuff.

Brisbane Nth side - aluminium radiator

Finally got around to taking a photo of my aluminum radiator. The choice of having the same problem again down the line or fixing the problem for good was easy. Had a trannie oil cooler fitted at the same time for the same money as having a new OEM radiator supplied and fitted.
