The trans should go in fine, but you'll need to match the rear diff.

What Dave said....

nightrider 09-18-2007 08:35 PM

do you think if i match the rear diff it will be a better gear ratio? does anybody kno the gear ratio? it isnt possible that it matches already is it? as u probly gessed i didnt do the 5mt swap, i bought it that way

Hocrest 09-18-2007 08:44 PM

The WRX uses a 3.545 rear, the same as the SVX.

The RS is not a 3.545, it's probably a 4.11?? You'll need to get a 4.11 (or whatever matches) rear out of a Legacy and swap your LSD into it. The info to swap the diff is either in the "how To's" or in a post somewhere?

nightrider 09-18-2007 08:49 PM

when lookin at gear ratio specs is it the first gear ratio or the final ratio?

huck369 09-18-2007 08:50 PM

The final ratio....

nightrider 09-18-2007 09:01 PM

ok i found out the 02 wrx was a 3.90 ratio and the rs was like huck said, 4.11, so would it be worth it to convert the car to a 411 ratio, is it benifial?

Little more get up n go...Highway rpms may be a little higher, but it won't be annoying...Actually, it puts rpms closer to here the car loves to make power, so it can get you in trouble if you have a lead foot

nightrider 09-19-2007 05:13 AM

will the rs differential bolt up right were my old one was or do i need to take them apart and swap the gears?

You have to swap gears....:o

Speedklix 09-19-2007 08:54 AM

the seat gives me a hug easily from a stand still with 4.11

...like it loves it and asks for more.

Speedklix 09-19-2007 08:58 AM

not a bad price, I should grab it as a spare

...but I would recommend to you, just get a wrx trans. save yourself the work of messin with the rear.

nightrider 09-19-2007 07:36 PM

how about a 98 legacy trans? will it hold the power and bolt up right? and do you kno the gear ratio?

huck369 09-19-2007 07:56 PM

The only car that you can retain the stock SVX rear diff is a 2002-2005 WRX
Which have 3.90's in them, but a reduction of 1.1:1 to the rear so they run a 3.54 rear diff like the SVX....

the 98 Legacy manual will bolt up, and will either be a 3.90 or a 4.1 and will require swaping the rear diff gears.....get the numbers off the housing by the starter and look it up.
