E-Z pass
My ez-pass does not work with my SVX. I was told I need an exterior badge due to the special windshield. Does anyone have one of these? Can you post a photo of it? Is there any drawbacks on having it mounted on the outside?

Sorry, I'm new on this forum. I noticed that this subject has been discussed before. I would still like to see the exterior badge, if someone can post it. Thanks!

The windshield has some special crap that wont allow it to be scanned inside the car. You could always hold it out of the window....always works for me. But you can also get the outside mounted one that goes on the the front liscence plate. It screws in with the bolts to the plate.

Titanium or titanium dioxide in the windshield blocks the ez pass signal. The SVX and I think the Lincoln Continental have this problem.

Sereph (Lwin) has also installed his EZ pass there because of the same problem. He may jump in here and tell us more than we want to know! :D :D :D

I live in illinois and had the same problem.
They offer a special I-pass unit that mounts on the license plate frame. I've had it for a couple of years..........no problems rich |
u could just hold it out of the window....i do that all the time with no problems.

Better yet.. mount it to the inside front section of your sunroof (just under the front lip) so that it hangs at the appropriate angle.
Approach toll, open sunroof. Sucks in winter or rain of course. |
I had the same problem in Florida driving with my brother, we threw it in the back window deck, that worked ok.

For owners with a 92 grille, there are other less conspicuous options than hanging off the front license plate. ;-)

Well, there ain't no titanium in the front grille so I'd wonder why it wouldn't work. Did you get it all the way to the front edge or just near the back, still under the hood?

I think because the grille is still mostly under the hood. Could be a fluke that the two booths I went through (Newburgh-Beacon, and Bear Mountain Bridge) read from the roof of the booth. But I don't know where the receiver is on any booth to tell you the truth. I now have the external tag zip-tied to the outside of the grille and that works but is extremely ugly. I will get my front plate bracket mounted at some point...
Another mounting position I have tried was the lower grille in the bumper cover. No luck there either. Putting it in the back window is interesting to me if anyone else has tried that with EZ-Pass. The only electronic toll boths I've been through in FL used a barcode stuck to the back window (I think). |
yeah i have the external ez pass. its been stolen a couple of times (3) since i moves to salisbury. kind of sucks
