New SVX Owner

Just purchased a 94 LSI in laguna blue pearl with 73,000 miles (118,000KM) on the clock. Original tranny...new rubber (Potenzas), new brake pads, oil changed, 60000 mile service completed, runs great. I want to thank the webmaster and all the regulars here for having such an informative and interesting site about this car...it helped me decide on the SVX.

My every day driver is a 300M (Chrysler) and I love the car but is now sitting outside while the SVX enjoys the garage. The SVX has lots of character...a great engine that makes wonderfull sounds...looks contemporary and is comfy for all day cruising. Very happy with the car. It is in excellent shape...will post pics to my locker later this week for those interested.

I have a couple of questions I was hoping to have answered.
1. Power light- mine does not come on at all.. even under full throttle. The tranny seems strong, no funny noises (had synthetic installed) and shifts well with no flaring between gear changes. When you slam the pedal to pass it kicks down and accelates VERY well. So why no light?

2. Is the tranny cooler mandatory for best service life of the tranny? Im Guessing yes on this although the local Subie dealer says its not required.

Thanks again for the great web site!

This sounds stupid and obvious, but maybe it's burnt out?

Also, I would add a cooler to the tranny. The SVX's transmission problems stem from their tendency to overheat.

The green power light should come on when you turn the car to ON, before you start the engine.

Boone 04-22-2002 07:21 PM

Some of the later years don't have a power light. I'm not sure where the cut off was. B.

The power light does light up when the key is turned forward to the on position...its green. I wonder if this means the car is not running at full power when nailed...what is the light for anyways?:(

On 94s there are power lights. The light is used for diagnostic purposes as well as to show the power mode. You may have to slam it real hard for the light to light up. Try this. At 50 mph, let go of the gas and then slam it hard.

Power-Light!

I have got a '92!

The Power Light should come on for a short time, when starting the car.
And during the drive the Power light only comes up in "Sport-Mode".
If you drive with "Economy" there is no Power-Light, but if you switch to "Sport-Mode" the Power light comes up if you do the Kickdown.

Seraph...you were correct!!! I went out the highway...floored it and on comes the power light!!! Perhaps I should not have been so concerned about the power light....but all the failed tranny talk on this site and all other places on the net has me spooked. Surely this tranny thing must be way overblown isnt it? Im running synthetic fluid but have yet to install a tranny cooler. Tranny shifts great...seems strong...oh ya and Ive got my fingers crossed....

The US models do not have the ability to switch between sport and economy.

My car doesn' t take a hard stomp to get that light on, she comes on almost everytime the pedal goes past half throttle. I wonder if it was altered. Oh, how does the american model not have economy and sport mode? What is the difference between the two? Can't be that much...Can it?

MartyMcFly 04-24-2002 01:42 AM

Eco/Sport

Well, I didn't know that US models doesn't have the switch.
There is a second button on the shifter, where you can switch between ECO and Sport.
The Difference --> At Sport mode the gears shift at higher rpm and it shifts harder. Really sporty to drive that way.
At Economy it's a bit smoother and you need less fuel.
Normally I am driving ECO, but if I am hunting some riced cars or at Red Lights I turn to Sport :)

I see, The button must be in place of our manual button to start the car off in second. I never use that button anyway, I wonder how hard and what it would take to switch it over. Oh, great name by the way. Back to the Future 2 was definately one of THE best movies ever aside for 1 and 3. In that order. I just wish they didn't trash it with the train, my heart hit my toes on that scene. Ouchies :(

:)

I love the movies, so that's why my nickname is MartyMcFly :)
Especially the car in the movie --> DeLorean is designed from the same man who made the SVX.

www.italdesign.it

great homepage
I love the prototype section

I also have got the Manual switch --> I don't know what for;
there is also an antenna switch?

The Eco/Sport Switch is direct under the gear-shift button.
I will soon make some pictures of my svx and then I will also picture the interior, so that you can see what's different to US-models.

OK, so you have your switch where out manu switches are. I never knew about the antenna up and down switch. I have an after market radio and it's so damn aggrivation listening to that antenna going up and down everytime I take the cd out. I think I am just going to wire that to my fuse box just to save it. GOing up and down so much is gonna toast it. Yes, good homepage, but I like to focus on my SVX and not clutter my head with other cars I can't afford.
