Rotors - vented Vs solid

OK my Baby has sold rears, can I fit vented (are they interchangable).

Are there any advantages - vented being on the rear?

thanks

I would say not.
The rear doesn't have a heating warping problem as a rule.

Re: Rotors - vented Vs solid

You have solid rears? Isn't yours a JDM car? JDM's came with slotted rears, as I recall, so someone may have changed your to solid rotors at a previous brake job. USDM SVXii came with solid rear rotors, so when I tried to buy rotors and got slotted ones, I found out they didn't fit.

I would bet that if you buy a set of slotted rotors they will fit your car perfectly.

Re: Rotors - vented Vs solid

Mine are solid - they have been from new - even though here in NZ & AUS we got the same running gear (gearbox / diffs / ratio splits etc) - I have checked with the Subaru guys here & found out that the local market in NZ spec'd solid rear rotors - hence the original question about whether vented would fit, I will ask Dayle at Motorsport warehouse if the USA vented / non-vented dimensions are.

thanks

Ah, cool. Take a look at your capiler mounting bracket, that was what I found to be the problem with running slotted in my car. My bracket will only permit the thinner, solid rotors. The JDM vented rotors are 18mm thick. I couldn't find the specs on the solid ones, but probably 14mm or so.

Yes they are thinner than 18mm - I suspect that you are right about the thickness...

I got new rotors from Applied Rotor Technologies (ART) Both rear & front were vented & slotted. No trouble with fit & have stood up well. I think they are the same as Nissan Pathfinder. They were no more than OEM rotors.

Looks like your fronts and rears are both slotted but only the fronts are vented...

I could be wrong but, unless you use a lot thiner pad, I doubt you could ever get a vented disk into the rear.

Yes that is what I have found out - measured a JDM version & compared it with the NZ spec'd one - no-go.

Thanks to everyone who sorted this one out for me ....

I have put both slotted/drilled on my 95 LSI both front and rear and have no problems. They are also vented as well. Put in ceramic kevlar pads front and rear with no problems. Also put in the PWR radiator and that fit perfectly. Body work being done as we speak.

I got drilled and slotted on the front and rear. They are great cause my rims are always clean since I get no brake dust build up! If you don't care about JDM vs USDM you can get them for a good price form NAPA you can also order form the motorsportwarehouse.com

You may have me there. It's been a while since they were installed. I'll check when I switch to my winter tires & report back.

How many miles do you have on your ART rotors? I have 40,000+ on mine (front only). I just changed the pads, the rotors look super. I got 40,000+ miles out of Akebono ceramic pads.

I just switched to solid because mine were starting to show cracks around the cuts and holes. Plus you can't cut slotted rotors. I've only driven the solid rotors for a short while but they seem very good.
