4.11 fuel economy report..
well i topped the tank off and reset the trip meter.. here's what i found..
in highway cruising, i managed to achieve some pretty decent economy. By the 1/2 tank mark i had already covered something like 170 miles, which is pretty decent. However, the second half of the tank went mighty quick, and that was all city driving. the gas light JUST came on and the trip meter shows 290 miles.. that's pretty lousy.. i think i used to get the gas light at something like 320 miles.. that is all  <--- this is not a smiley wearing sunglasses |
That's still not bad gas mileage with all things considered. It may work out for me to install 4.44 gears into my SVX this fall and I know my fuel economy will be compromised even more than yours after the installation. However, compared to other premium sports cars/grand tourers, that mileage is still very respectable! ;)
-Chike P.S. How's the acceleration of the 4.11 gears compare to your old 3.55's? :) |
If you get the time could you please calculate the gas mileage? :) I am very interested to know how well the 5 spds do and I am interested in a more accurate number. Thanks

It doesn't look like he has a 5spd, but swapped in a 4EAT with 4.11 gears.

i'm not sure if i can afford to fill the tank up again, since i'm gonna be driving the WRX again soon, but if i do, i'll calculate the actual mpg |
That's awesome! :) I'm looking to build the fastest NA SVX on this forum, so I'll be taking my gearing a 'step up' to 4.44s. These gears along with Longass's chip, exhaust & intake should put me solidly into the 14's!
Personally, I don't care too much about gas mileage as I'm switching over from an SVT Lightning that got 14mpg in mixed city/highway. -Chike Quote:

the only thing with the 4.44's is that you're going to really be buzzing on the highway.. i'll bet you get about 3000rpms at 60mph. at 80mph you're going to be close to 3750 i imagine.. sustained periods at those rpm levels might mean increased heat levels and wear on engine components, but then again, they might not.. time will tell :D

Thanks. -Bill (trying to figure out when he's going to have time to install his "longassname" chip....) |
According to Mychailo, at 71 mph I'll be doing about 3000 rpms in 4th gear with the Torque Convertor locked. Second gear will take me to about 67mph, and third to 103mph. If I was on a racetrack and had Longass's chip installed, I could get up to 165mph at about 7000rpm in 4th.
4.44 gears seem to raise the rpm level by approx 600 rpms over the standard 3.55's... -Chike Quote:

Fatsest NA SVX time I've seen is by poweredx2 who did a 14.78 @ 96mph in a fwd model.
I'm laying the gauntlet down here. By hook or by crook, my SVX will do a 14.5 naturally aspirated and I feel it can be done with 4.44 gears, Michael's chip, intake and exhaust. -Chike Quote:

i would be willing to put money that mike davis (green1995svx) has the fastest NA svx on the network.

I might do the same thing someday. I have a 4.11, 91 legacy with 218k miles on it. The only thing is we still use it a lot. |

Has he ever run his SVX at the track or on a dyno? I'm talking about hard numbers...poweredx2 has a time-slip for that 14.78 run so until I see a faster time, that's what I'll be shooting for...
