yea, the idea is save some money for a new tranny, the tranny brake band might be slipping. It can be adjusted but its a temp fix.
Im speaking of experience.....I have a SVX with a dead tranny right now.

it's possible that the dropping resistor is disconnected or has failed. Can't say I have any idea why, but it seems to cause gear hunting between 3rd & 4th on some transmissions

Tranny

It has an updated tranny, done by a dealer about 6 yrs ago...it seems to get worse with the cold weather, it gets a little better when tranny is warm. Where would the dropping resistor be, and how can I test/check it. The car sat for about 9 months, I was told the problem was not there before...

It's located on the inner fenderwell by the battery...

i dont mean to jack your thread, but does anyone know of a source for 4.11 4eats? Is there a place online that sells them? I think my tranny is about to go also, i wish it would just hurry up so i can stop worrying about it. Thanks:)

besides a junkyard.;)

I would check out your TPS. If it's sending erratic readings it can confuse your tranny into thinking you just floored it even though you didn't move the gas pedal.

I checked the dropping resistor, it's connected...but how do I check if it's not defective?...I'm going to my mechanic on Tues. as I don't know how to check or where to look for the items suggested. I'll bring a sugestion List with me... Unless someone can suggest things I can check myself....

Do you usually drive in 'D' or '3'?

Earthworm 12-11-2004 04:35 PM

If it turns out you need another resistor I'll sell you mine so you don't have to worry about duties/taxes coming across the border.
