Was a turbo SVX in development at one point?
 

I was reading through the Road & Track Guide to the SVX this past and was dumb-founded by some early clay model pics they had on page 20 & 21. (pics courtesy www.svx-iw.com)

You can clearly see '4wd Turbo' on the lower pic on page 21...

On page 58, another reference is made to a 1987 concept car that Subaru showed at the Tokyo Motor Show termed the F-9X:

From a 2.0 liter boxer four, Subaru claimed 355bhp and a top speed of 185mph!

Looks like the turbo-charged powertrain was still being considered when the first clay models were being sculpted... ;)

yeah, that has been floating around for a while. I always thought it was a turbo eg33 but I guess I was wrong...

I think that turbocharged concept is what led people to believe there was a twin turbo police edition SVX out there. Still these clay pics definitely confirm that up to the very late 80's when Giugiaro was working with Subaru designers on this project, a turbo powertrain was still being considered as a viable option... ;)

What about the idea of installing that supercharged and turbocharged 2.0L??? :rolleyes:

The s201 has a Cd of around 0.34. The SVX concept had a Cd of 0.27 while it's 0.29 on the production version.

Besides, the s201 makes way more than 280ps... ;) (closer to 320hp and 311ft-lbs)

There's a guy on NASIOC who has an STI with both a s/c and twin turbos. The s/c kicks in at low rpms and then disengages when the twin turbos come on the boil! :cool:

It would be one wild riding SVX...but would have bumped the price up considerably! :eek: :rolleyes:

What is the S201 ??? specs?? :confused:

Go to forums.nasioc.com/forums and do a search. It's best described as a limited edition STI - even though it has no STI badges! ;)

I wasn't trying to say the s201 is better, just saying that the figures didn't seem that unattainable. I guess that's what I inferred when you posted that. If that wasn't your intention then disregard all this.

Also are you sure about those power numbers?

I didn't think you were saying the S203 was better either... :)

Those are some estimated crank figures I saw tossed around by one mag. Don't know if they're true or not. However, the JDM STI and the s203 both make above 280ps for certain! ;)

Correct. I was getting my numbers mixed up - s201 is correct.

Definitely looks like Italdesign had a hand in its design - kinda looks like their XT concept on 'roids!
