H-6 cover
I was taking the H-6 cover off today and one of the screws fell beneath the car into the engine somewhere...tried to locate it but could not be found. The other screw is still in place. Is this bad or can i deal with this?

It would drive me nuts. :D I would take the intake manifold off to find it. Then again I know now that I can buy new ones at the dealer. So I am not going to look for mine the next time I drop it.

Check out this thread - Includes a link to SubaruParts.com where you can buy the clip...
Engine Cover Clip -Chike P.S. I would get a long thin wrench and just poke around under your intake manifold. If that doesn't work, I would drive carefully to an empty parking lot and drive around in tight circles braking sharply and see if it falls out. :) |
I ordered a couple of these retainer clips from subaruparts.com and was surprised to see them arrive in Nissan packaging. Obviously another item Subaru grabbed from the generic parts bin.

Nissan is actually a huge part supplier in Japan. A lot of companies use them. Dave |
Just a suggestion-
You may want to order a replacment grommet that holds the clip in place. these tend to shrink from the engine bay heat, and this is what causes the clips to fall out. A new grommet will ensure a happy clip that won't run away from home. :) Mike |
the clip didnt run away....i was taking the H-6 cover off and i dropped the clip by accident

Most people don't even notice that they have one missing. I keep 2 clips as spares just in case I lose one.
The last clips I lost were due to putting them on the cowl when I had the cover off. The hood ended up closing on them and it shattered both of them. |
You can actually get the clips at Lowe's. They have 'random fastener' and 'automotive fastener' bins.

hell, the cover tays on without tany screws or anything
