front and back of trunk

what do you consider to be the front or back of a trunk
do you think that closest to the back of the car is the front of the trunk or the back?

Re: front and back of trunk

If I were to refer to the trunk as front or back, I would reference it as front being towards that front of the car, or back of the trunk as being closest to the back bumper. :)

lol, im the complete opposite..... if its right there in front of me, its the front.... if I have to bend and reach to get to it... its in the back :D

We should have a poll, just for the hell of it.

Its on the port side, unless you're looking astern.

Re: front and back of trunk

After thinking about it, I would have to agree with the other way. Closest to me as I stand at the trunk, it would be front of the trunk.

But, that is only if you are looking towards the bow.

Good thread. I like this one.

I would probably say that the "front" of the trunk is the part closest to the back of the car.

Re: front and back of trunk

Think of the engine compartment as a sort of "trunk", with the hood replacing the trunklid...

When you open the hood, where is the "front" of the engine compartment and where is the "back" of the engine compartment?

Now go to the rear of the car and lift up the trunklid to the "trunk compartment". Where is the front and where is the back (rearmost)?

Standing in front of either compartment's edge, the area closest to you is the front.

The same principle as the back of your garage or the back of your closet: The area farthest away from the point of entry.

Let me guess, this started out as a spousal debate?:)

And are we going to see you on Cops next week in the back of a police cruiser, pointing feverishly at the trunk?

Re: front and back of trunk

To my mind, the "front" of any part of a vehicle is the point nearest the front of the vehicle.

And now that I've written that, if you told me to place something to the extreme back of the trunk, I'd probably move it right up behind the seat. Up as in, forward. Toward the front.

To eliminate any ambiguity between the "left" and "right" side, just say driver's or passenger's.
