ECUtune SVX pistons

We've gotten in the first batch of custom SVX pistons so it's time to start this thread. This piston design is now established for us so we can offer them as individual sets. They will be made available on our website when I revise it for multitude of performance hardware options we are developing (pistons, cam sets, rods, transmissions, forced induction parts); except for the forced induction parts, the other performance parts allready have their own threads.

Price $1090 shipping $30 lead time 5 weeks

highlights:
compression ratio: 8.5
pins: tool steel
valve reliefs: -0.275"
anti detonation grooves

Description: These are forged pistons designed for use with either gasoline or E85 and boost levels up to and in the 30's psi range. They are machined from the strongest forgings possible with emphasis being placed on strength. Appropriate rings are included and optimum ring placement for the application was incorporated into the design. Latteral gas porting was incorporated to facilitate sealing of extreme cyllinder pressures. Tool steel pins were used for maximum strength. Pins are centered as this is better for higher cyllinder pressures. Piston tops are designed for optimum squish area performance, intake charge mix, charge to spark kernel pressentation, flame propagation, and expansion force application.

I'll follow this post with some pictures and some notes trying to illustrate the features.

bottom/inside of piston note the holes that allow the oil from the oil control rings to pass through--obviously much stronger than the factory slots which were prone to failure.

note the deep valve reliefs which maintain zero interference with high lift camsafts
note the symetry of the piston top
note the flat top matching the cyllinder head squish area

Note the sheer awesome-ness of this thread...

Do you know the weights of the pistons and the weight of the pins? are they lighter then stock? Cool but I'll have to wait for awhile on a set. Still machining deck insert to close the deck on my block. :D

Which box is mine, which box is mine??? Those are awesome. They can withstand up to 30psi you said, but what is the peak boost that we will safely be able to run on pump gas? I think you might have said what it was on the phone (15psi I think) but I am not sure.

longassname 04-23-2007 02:13 PM

pistons are 419 grams. I think the pins are around 120 grams.

the forged piston complete with tool steel pin is about two ounces lighter than the factory piston and factory pin

BTW any news on the rods? You said that you were going to match the pistons and rods into sets before you shipped them to me right?

longassname 04-23-2007 02:20 PM

no news on the rods yet. I'm going to go ahead and ship the pistons out. I don't want to hold onto all these while I wait for the rods.

Mmmmmmm, yummy......

Crazy_pilot 04-23-2007 03:32 PM

soooo nice and shiney...:D :D

looks like I will need to call that machine shop sooner than later eh?:D :D

omfg i gotta start saving....these are way to shiny to resist

SSSVX 04-23-2007 04:25 PM

oh beautiful and shiny

looks like SVXi can withstand more boosts and be even faster...

Yet again, my wishlist grows even longer...

Congrats, very nice looking. What kind of abuse can stock rods take, as TomSVX i believe shattered his piston on his one car, not the rod. Could the rods take up to 15psi without worry, as long as the pistons can?

TomsSVX 04-23-2007 07:06 PM

I think the rods and bearing are good to at least 500 hp. Just don't **** it up:p
