puff of smoke
I have noticed this for some time, once in a while after my car has sit for a while maybe 5 hours or over night, when it first starts there will be a large puff of blue smoke but it stops very quickly. I know in V8s expecially the older ones, that could be a sign of weak valve seals or worn valve guides but since these engines are opposed cylinder, I am wondering if that could be the case? I don't have to add oil very ofter and some of that is the leaking of cam and crank seals I think, I am going to change those when the weather gets warmer, and yes,, the water pump and timing belts etc.. Has anyone ever had this smoke on initial start up? and if so what cased it? I can notice it most when I start it from in the house when I can see the car but I also notice it when I am in the car too.. Thanks, Vernon

Mine does the same thing. The dealership told me not to worry about it.

Yea, mine's done it maybe 2 or 3 times in the past 2 1/2 years... At first I was worried about it, but it hadn't happened in over 6 months... Oh well, it's totally random...

 :) ;) :p J |
While the car sits, a little oil is seeping past worn piston rings. Probably not a problem until she becomes a real smoker.
