Gas Mileage
 

I'm at 170miles for this tank, and need to re-fuel soon, a little less than i was hoping, but it's only 25$ to fill up too.

I'm curious what kind of milage other auto's are getting, as well as what the manuals are getting, since i plan to be stick shift by mid summer. I've always gotten better gas milage with manual trans, but on highway i guess it depends on how it's geared, 2000rpm at 50mph in top gear was typical for my manual's in hte past, and it seems about that currently with the auto. I've been keeping a detailed log on my teal for a couple of years and the overall average is just under 22 MPG. I've gotten 30 on the highway, once, but can count on a solid 26-27 on a run to and from Atlanta (not at 55 MPH). Typical numbers for my daily haul are 17-18.

I can get close to 400 miles on a tank at 70-75 mph with mostly highway driving. around the city etc it will be 3 something depending on how I drive...

Normally I get about 15mpg on ancient gas but this year after hibernating since October she's gonna push 320 or so before my light even thinks of coming on. When she was a daily driver I never got less than 20mpg in the winter and about 23-25 in summer on the rare collector item stock automatic.:D

I have more incentive to drive it this year as the XT6 mileage went down to the lower 30s now that its a fwd 5 speed.:D

All of mine get pretty much the same mpg - around city and country, about 20 - 25 and on the highway, 26 to 30. It is hard to say how many miles per tank, because when do you fill it up - at empty or when the light comes on. I never let it get low enough to have the light come on. :)

neither do i, i hear it was not good to drop the tank too much especially in the winter - condensation, and it gets hard on the pump when there isn't much gas as well

On a motorway at 85 ish my JDM will return low 20's, average on town & A roads is late teens and on a "good" :D drive early teens!
I guess we didnt buy them for the cost of running them so just keep filling them up & enjoy :D

Actually last I read on the subject the opposite is true today esp with plastic tanks (came from I think either British Car or maybe new enough to be ClassicMotorsports). Has to do more with gas additives more so than the gas itself. The shelf life of Ethanol and other additives is much shorter than that of the gas itself. By only filling in 1/2 increments you're leaving more of it behind to "mix" and then when it does come out it leaves behind varnish residue. Kinda like you never get all the old ATF out of a tranny.

As for the pump it does need gas for lub. so letting it go to the point of starvation around turns is quite bad, the way the SVX tank is designed though that's less than a gallon of gas in there.

18 to 20 in town and only on the highway once bringing it home and got 22.

Im not sure what the Pearl is getting, as I havent checked it out yet, but when the Claret was taking long trips about this time last year, it was getting 28-29mpg on the highway.

Anyone know the mpg difference between regular fluids and running synthitic fluids? I figure the reduced friction in the diffs, engine, and transmission would make a pretty significant difference.

I found out atleast in my car, filling Chevron gas gives better gas milage. I have filled Shell and it turns out it does the lowest.

I used to get the best gas mileage with chevron in my 91 Dodge Spirit. I never noticed a difference except for chevron.

Here in Washington State, I have found I do notice a difference in Chevron fuel. I get better mileage with it than any other fuel. :D That is in all of my vehicles, not just the SVX. :)

Bah, i just filled up with shell instead of driving across the street to chevron. Oh well, I have a highway trip coming this summer, 1600 miles to texas, and then back, and i just got rid of my 10mpg truck, and was trying to calculate my fuel costs. Also, it says to use 93+ octane only on the inside of the gas tank door. Can anyone attest to that? I just noticed it, and have only ever used 87 before.
