SVX for Sale Bad HG's Should i buy ?

hi guys
long time no post

i found this 1994 Subaru SVX Lsi for sale less than 90 miles away  from me.
and well the info stated in the Ad

awd
auto
leather interior
heated mirrors
cd player
fog lights
insp ends in 2/11
approx 145k-
blown head gaskets
dont have the time or money to repair at this time, but overall the car is in very good shape-
it loves the snow and has lots of power-
could make a great project or a very very nice parts car-
call for more info- no emails please too many scammers
chris

i spoke to him on the phone and he said possible engine change. and that this SVX is no stranger to SVX World, because his neighbor is a member here and he got this SVX from before he went to the military.

the only thing i do not like is TAN interior
but its the only one in years that came this close to me buying.

i can change the engine or head gaskets if needed. just finding the parts is the hard part.

should i try to buy this SVX ?

i would really love to have one

Are you able to do the Head Gasket Repair yourself? If not, you would be looking at a fairly expensive repair.
I think saving one is always a great idea especially if it is in good condition and rust free, just know what you are getting into.

It should be really inexpensive with blown head gaskets, like under $1000.00 cheap, so could be worth fixing if the rest is is in pretty good shape.

I always like to see one saved from a part out. But if you have to ask....

yes i'm able to repair the hg's myself.
but i asked him if it ever got to the red and he said yes so i'm worried about warped heads and block.

i personally think its worth it.

i really hate to let this one slip by me.

i love my XT6 adn knowing the SVX is the last of the 6 cylinder coupes from subaru. makes me want it even more.

i got $195 sofar, wish i could come up with more sooner.

In that case you can take a chance, if it doesn't work out you could just as easily replace the engine.
It looks pretty nice in the ad and if they are asking $800 you may be able to take him down a lot due to the uncertainty of him running it into the red.
From the look of it it deserves to be saved.
I like the tan better than the gray, but I guess that just comes down to personal preference.

If you can't afford to buy a good one, then you certainly can't afford to buy a bad one.

I wouldn't touch it.

I ended selling mine for the very same reason. These engines eat head gaskets. If you have only $195 right now it does not sound too promising. If some one GAVE you this car right now, it would just laugh at your $195.

Re: SVX for Sale Bad HG's Should i buy ?

I have not yet encountered head gasket issues with my SVX, but I'm sure it's on the horizon. I'm prepared.

I've owned several SVXs over the years, some with over 200k miles, just like Lee, and I have never had any hint of a head gasket problem.

However, I think if your resources are limited as such, the SVX wouldn't be a wise decision. These are a premium car with a premium maintenance schedule, and premium parts prices.

i see, I'm up to the challenge, finding parts for my XT6 was no easy task.
now that i have it completed i feel i can take on any Subaru !.

if i have to modify i will !

i did notice the prices are higher, i paid $160 to my door for performance rotors, and same place is asking $268 for the same but for the SVX.

i wont be talking my xt6 off the road so i will have a back up car to drive when the SVX goes out.

my job is only 2 miles away there and back. i could drive the svx to work and back with out an issue.

I'll save up some dough and get another engine for it, I'll try changing the HG's first which is $40 each IIRC (not bad about the same for my XT6)

Black is my fav color this will be my first black car

 Black SVX

Re: SVX for Sale Bad HG's Should i buy ?

I've taken apart over 5 engines and not a single one did not have a hg issue.
All engines ran good and were operable.
It's almost a given.
