Yeah yeah yeah... I am a bit behind on this. But I made up for it by building one NASTY PC! All SATA rig. Say no to IDE!

I just can't wrap my brain around water going through my PC, so I built mine without going that route.
I have the 940 Black, and it cooks. But like all monsters, you gotta keep it chilled. If the fans go south, it'll start to let the smoke out of the wires right now.

Mine idles at 32c and running Batman or Crysis on very high hits about 44c. I think with the H50 I can get it down to under 30c idle and under 40c pushed hard.

Mine doesn't get a lot of punishment anymore. An ATC simulator, and some of the old Combat Flight Sims now and then.
Lots of input, and it still holds up to it though. Superbike, and others can be a lot more fun now that I don't have to deal with the hiccups.

It does eat up the SETI packets. Lots of mathyness.

My old gaming rig is somewhat antiquated now, and since it's being used by the family while I'm away at school it's pretty much loaded down with useless junk. When it was new it could run Oblivion or Flight Sim X flat out without any problem. The liquid cooling system was pretty sweet. I didn't like the recommended locations for the radiator though. It was suggested to mount it to the back of the computer where the exhaust fan normally goes. My problem with this is that the lines had to be run through an expansion slot, which could cause chafing. Also, being on the back it was drawing already warm air out of the case to "cool" the rad. My solution was to remove the lower hard drive bays, mount the rad inside the case at the intake location, and then run a duct to a large hole cut in the floor of the case.

It's more than 6 years old, but here's the specs:

AMD Athlon FX 55 overclocked to 2.9GHz, 1MB L2 - Single core, but one of the fastest single-core processors ever made. Overvolted from 1.30V to 1.55V (a lot). 34 C at idle, 45ish under load.

2 Gigs of ram
8800 GTS 320 graphics - annihilates Folding@home work units
4 random hard drives totaling about 600 gigs
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, previously Windows Server 08 x64 hacked to be a workstation.
Logitech g15 2nd gen keyboard, MX 518 mouse
Logitech z5500 speakers

Customized Xigmatek heatpipe tower w/ 120mm fan. The intake, CPU, and exhaust fans are perfectly lined up. The northbridge also has a little heatpipe tower of its own that blows extra air into the graphics card above it. Northbridge is 30C under load. Basically room-temp, despite being overclocked. Basically a perfectly air-cooled system.

Hooked up to both a 21.6" Samsung monitor and the 32" HDTV in the living room, so I can use it from either place. Also have extra mouse/keyboard in the living room. Primary function is playing Team Fortress 2 from my couch in HD.


All that said, Nice rigs guys. I like the choices of the black editions, unlocked multipliers make for very flexible and easy overclocking. That's why I got my FX.
