Idle roller bearings for the T-belt.
 

Well it’s getting to be that time of the year ago to change my timing belt. :D I’m only kidding, it’s been about 3 years since I changed it last. :)

I am concerned about all the idle rollers for the T-belt. They have about 237,000 miles on them and I think they may need replacement. Unless somone knows they will make it to 300,000. I do not want to go back in and replace them if one goes bad.

I know Beav has drilled holes in the seals and put oil in his. How’s that working? I think mine sounded a little dry the last time I had them out.

Has anybody tried to press out the old bearing and install new bearings in the idle rollers? I would like to do this.

Yes, there was a thread concerning this fairly recently; you ought to be able to track it down with a search.

Given the cost of the replacement bearings and the hassle factor invloved, I figured from what I read that I'd just as soon buy new idlers, but you may conclude differently.

At $160 for both.... Figuring $20 to $25 an hour for your time at rebuilding them...Another $30 for the Curse jar, and $2 in bandaids......

I just got around to replacing my cam and crank seals Saturday. I had drilled and lubricated the idlers and tensioner with wheel bearing grease, what, a year or two ago? All is still good, although the hot glue I used to seal the holes didn't last. This time I just put a dab of RTV over the holes, I'll check them in a year or so and see how they are doing.

A 1/16th inch hole in the seal, grease with wheel bearing grease using a pocket fitting adapter (see:http://www.napaonline.com/cgi-bin/nc...&usrcommgrpid=) and close with a dab of RTV, after cleaning the area around the hole.

Personally, I'd choke if I had to spend ca. $100/ea for five idlers. I'm having a hard enough time swallowing $300 for a pair of engine mounts and another $660 for Konis. I haven't yet and I'm still in the hunt if anyone has any suggestions.

Would you install used engine mounts?

I'd have to look at the idlers for the SVX, but I know for sure on the ones for an XT6, you can press out the bearing and press in a new one, it uses a standard bearing, cost about $5 per idler.....
