Window scratch repairs

Is there a definitive answer here? I get it that the pseudo-felt is trapping stuff. Has replacing it been successful? For a car driven a lot (60k in a year), how long would a simple cleaning last? What's this Bon Ami stuff that's supposed to be able to polish out the scratches? Does using it distort the glass?

Well, that's it for now. Let me know if you know.

Thanks,

Peter

Peter:

I used the polishing kit from Eastwood with the felt wheel/compound which removed the finer scratches from my side window. As the instructions say, if the scratch catches your fingernail, it won't be removed completely. The BonAmi cleanser was good for removing any trace of road scum, wiperblade residue, and making the glass very clean but doesn't remove any scratches AFAIK.

I've used Bon Ami to remove some scratches from window glass, but admit they were very slight marks.

Bon ami can be found in the household cleanser isle in supermarkets, etc. It's a product like Comet, but I have been told by glass people (who suggested I try it) that is has more consistent size of abrasive particles and which are small enough to not introduce visible scratches - but it is an abrasive, so...

For even lighter scratches one could try the cleaner for the ceramic stove tops.

For worse scratches (fingernail catching type), I don't know as I have been to afraid to try it on a DIY basis.
