Hood/Trunk Strut Options?
Do we really have no other choice than going OEM? Every dealership I work with is filled with completely useless people when it comes to ordering parts for this car, and I've got commercial accounts with all of them. I don't get calls back, and have half a mind to take 20 minutes out of my life to swing by the biggest place and show them how to do their job. If anyone has a link to a site where I can buy replacements, I'd appreciate it.

Re: Hood/Trunk Strut Options?
You have 3 options.
A. Factory replacements $$$ B. Used factory replacements, Cheap but might not last C. Modified Aftermarkets, require some work if you're handy and tools Look in the How-to Docs at the top of the page under Body & Chassis |
Re: Hood/Trunk Strut Options?
.....You have a few options for aftermarket HOOD struts.
.....Nothing works as well as OEM TRUNK struts. The factory ones are the only ones whuch allow the trunk to open a full 90°. .....Top photo is OEM. Bottom photo is aftermarket .....http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/atta...1&d=1265676267 .....Part numbers for OEM trunk struts are: .....57521PA000...Stay Trunk RH...49.50 .....57521PA010...Stay Trunk LH...49.50 .....LetItSnow did a write-up for aftermarket hood struts that require only a small modification to the bottom bracket. Uses ball ends at the top and bottom. Click HERE . |

Re: Hood/Trunk Strut Options?
Yeah I could see how that extra 15 degrees or so on the trunk opening does make a difference, it amounts to seveal extra inches of clearance at the top.
I wasn't even aware there was any aftermarket options for the trunk... yet. ;) Is it similar to the hood where it is something you have to fabricate the brackets on, or does some aftermarket company actually offer one for the SVX? I figured the fact that AWD never offered trunk ones, while they offered excellent hood ones, meant something. :o While on the subject, Earl (or someone in the NW), do any of your cars have what you would consider GOOD trunk struts? Or better yet, ones you recently replaced with new OEM yourself? Looking for a test standard. ;) |
Re: Hood/Trunk Strut Options?

Re: Hood/Trunk Strut Options?
i need trunk struts mine are dead. It actually feels like the trunklid weighs like 200 pounds when opening, and i have to hold it til all the way closed to not SLAM itself to bits.
I will stop back and see what comes of this. I may even just buy new oem ones. |
