My PCV system is missing.
 

Where did it go? :confused:

This is what I was told by some guy in some Subaru shop whom I asked just to change my engine and tranny oil, and some kinda fuel injector service which might have been a huge waste of money. $25 in discount and I still got reamed for $312. :/

I told him that doesn't make any sense. The thing was working not too long ago. I wouldn't have had to replace the valve if the system was gone, would I? He says oil is getting into my intake but I don't think it is..
I told them I get random hiccups while driving (the car, not me) and maybe he was just trying to find an excuse for it. I'm pretty sure it's the ****ty fuel.
When I checked over their work I found my intake clamps were loosened and the hose coming off the side was disconnected.

He says the rack and pinion gears are leaking. What would they leak exactly? PS fluid? Where is this gear?

He says my left front camshaft seal is leaking. Which one is that?

The other problems they found I either knew about or are not problems as they see them. My timing cover was not drilled out by my current pulley like he thought.

I don't think I should trust this place anymore.

Or maybe he couldn't find the PCV valve and told you it is missing:rolleyes: Use an Allen wrench to pull off the cover that runs up the middle of the intake manifold. About 2/3 of the way back, there a small triangular opening, you should be able to peek in there and see the large black tubing going into the PCV valve that is threaded into the bottom of the intake.

If your steering is leaking, yeah it would be ATF, but it is much more common for a leak to be in one of the lines than in the rack. The steering rack is attached to the crossmember under the engine, the tie-rods from each of the front wheel go into it.

The camshafts are behind the cam wheels which are turned by the timing belt, so it is under the timing belt cover.

If he couldn't find the PCV, then no I wouldn't trust him too much....

$312 for an oil change and fuel injector smoke oil? I can't believe that. You can remove your injectors, have them cleaned professionally and blueprinted for 1/2 that price.

If you didn't have your PVC system on there you shouldn't be running except at high rpm. The car would simply die at an idle (at least if it was like my BRAT and my XT6).

Its fairly common for some blowby to make it into the intake. You'll know if in 2000k miles if its serious just by removing the intake hose from the intake.

Not so sure about the PS issue as I'm not sure what he was refering too.

The cam seal is behind the timing belt. Don't know how he'd be able to narrow it down to this seal w/o removing the cover but if its leaking horribly or left a spot he probably just is guessing that's it (and is probably right).

I don't think I would trust them any more. :confused: :o

I went to this place soon after getting my SVX for a check up, and they wanted to replace my oil and water pump for $1000. :rolleyes: I never went to them again but I got a flyer with discount coupons last week...


SVX says it's -18 degrees this morning and my seat is hard as a rock. Vista also says it's -18.

I'm always impressed with how accurate the outside temp sensor is.

Actually, I just did a check, and your temp sensor reading is off by a half of a degree. It will cost you $312.00 (not including travel expenses) for me to fix this, but just to show you that I care, I will send you a $25.00 off coupon for any service that costs more than $300.00 (not including travel expenses) after the application of the coupon.

Yeah they didn't really tell me how much it would cost before it went in.

Engine oil labor was 5.70, tranny was 85, injectors was 85 and the rest was "parts" including "BG fuel injector chemicals" for 60.25, "Motorvac Transtech TT2 conditioner and TT1 cleaner for 13.04 each. 60.10 in oil and a filter and gasket. I would have got charged for a fuel filter as well if I had not told them not to replace it.

This is also probably the last time I take it to a shop for stuff like this. That's also what I said last time, but man I'm lazy. :(

define "left front camshaft seal":confused: :confused: Morons

:confused: He didn't say they took the cover off so my question is how did they know it was a camshaft seal and not the valve cover, dummy cam seal or even the power steering pump leaking. They'll all drip in the same place.;)
