If only SVXs were still in production

OK spent some time last night (at work) checking out SVX websites and came across this one.
http://www.geocities.com/jamsvx/?200728/
I'm sure many of you have already been there but I started reading the old articles about the SVX and one in particular caught my eye. It's a comparison of the SVX, the RX7, Nissan 300ZX and BMW325i. SVX comes out pretty nicely against the opposition.
However, I was wondering what cars the SVX would be compared to today if it were still in production. How much would it cost and how do you think it would sell.
Using an inflation calculator I estimated that my car a 94SVX would go for about $67,000 CDN. (In the comparison article these cars were listed at $70,000 plus. Does anyone know what country this article originated in.??)

Subaru's pricing has remained very consistent over the years. I have a window sticker here in the store for a 1994 Subaru Legacy Wagon AWD w/leather - $23,866.00.

A comparable 2007 Legacy Limited Wagon (and keep in mind all of the additional safety features, comfort and convenience features, and improved performance over 13 YEARS) - $26,120.00!!

That's an increase of only 9% over a 13 year period.

Now, if you consider MSRP's of other high performance Subarus:

WRX - $24.5K - 29K
Legacy GT - $30K
Legacy 3.0R - $33K
Legacy GT Spec B - $35K
STi - $35K

I could see a new SVX landing right around the $40K-42K range, especially if they used the legacy platform w/either the 3.0 or new 3.6 in the Tribeca.

I imagine it would be aimed at the g35, mabey BMW 3 series. Of course, they'd make it into an ugly legacy 7 door hatchback with Headlights shaped like indiana. It would also have a 7 inch subaru emblem adorning the space that should be used for a grill. Chrome is standard color for headlight surrounds, tail lights, wheels, and the grill.Oh, and from the back, it has to look like a mazda. No exceptions .... It'd also only be available in grey scale, as is standard for a new luxuryish car. The best part: It'd be made by toyota

Lets face it. New cars more or less suck

My "2nd Generation SVX Concept" drawing:

Too much body and not enough glass, and wheels are too small, but oh well.

nice & modern,
reminds me almost of the new LF-A

I posted this over at www.subaruxt6.com , it seems appropriate to this thread too.
Here's my thoughts on an Alcyone III.

Mid-engined
Mechanical AWD
300+hp
6spd man, CVT auto optional
lastly, only 2 seats

Would Subaru build it? Nah.
Would it help Subaru to build it? Uh Uh.
Do we want Subaru to build it? Well maybe not this concept, but something 2dr & sporty OH HECK YEAH!
I honestly think Subaru should build a Legacy coupe. Make the highline model the Alcyone. Think about it, a Legacy Alcyone 3.6 Coupe.

Things considered, with the distance that those drawings have covered, they could likely just fire up the old moldings and such and continue like it was 1997 all over again...

I read recently that Subaru are teaming up with Toyota to build a sports car for under $17,000. I'll see if I can find something on it...

Ok that didn't take long. Check this out..

or just put (Subaru, Toyota, sportscar) into Google. It's the first one on the list..

I am glad someone else agrees with me. That would be perfect!

well, i asked a subaru dealership about how much a 92 went for when it came out, they told me it was about 60 grand. not sure if that would have been for a L model or LS~L . but with im' sure if it was to come out again, i would imagine it would be well over 67 grand. ~ canadian funds of course

...the only problem with a two door legacy being an alcyone...

Alcyone subarus have always been a uniqe platform (I.E.- not based off a pre-existing suby) , often a prelude to future models, testing tecnolagy that may or may not be incorperated into the future lineup... A test bed, if you will (just imgine if they decided to use the air suspension and electric power steering pump from the XT on a legacy).

so...re-badging a legacy just wouldnt cut it for an alcyone. And besides..they've milked out SO many "diffrent models" from two 10 year old platforms. If they were to make a new alcyone platform, I'd imagine it would either be a test for a roadster, or possibly some kind of hybrid or alternitive fuel expriment. Something quirky that captures a small crowds imagination and makes a basis for ideas to come years later...not a car that's meant to be the same as the competition offers
