Dash lights on, no power steering

Problems are coming fast and furious now. Weird tranny in limp mode issue never happened again. I got a replacement TCU and new capacitors just in case. Replaced the TPS with my spare and that seems OK. Have had this weird binding feeling in the power steering for a while. Replaced the rack but that didn't fix it. Was going to check the power steering pump next. But, this morning, all the dash lights came on and were flickering. They went off when I revved the engine. So I drove to work. Went out to get lunch and the dash lights came on again. I also had little to no power steering. About a half mile down the road the dash lights went off again and power steering returned. Any thoughts?

Sounds kind of like a belt issue. Pop the hood and make sure the belt is on and tight and also check to see if the idler is seized. The Christmas tree lights on the dash is indicative usually of an alternator issue, and add in the loss of power steering and it makes me think a belt issue. It could also be the crank pulley separating allowing things to slip.

More info. When I got home I put my charger on the battery. It tests the battery and said it was a little low but ok. At idle the voltage on the battery was 12.3V with the AC on and door open and 12.7 when the car was off. After charging the battery, the voltage was 13.8 when the AC and door light were off and 12.7V when they were on. In either case, the voltages don't move when I rev the engine. I checked the belt and pullies and everything is spinning. Feels like the alternator to me.

It sounds like a battery/electrical problem to me. The power steering is adjusted electrically according to RPM or speed depending on trim level.
I agree with the alternator diagnosis. When revving it up the alternator should put out around 14.3 volts.

It looks like the crank pulley.

Does anyone have a crank pulley in decent shape?

I just recycled 2 or 3 of them about 2 months ago when I did a basement clean out. Rats!
You don't need an SVX one. Other Subies are the same, most minus the rubber insert.
