Stock rims - 2 colors?
I bought 2 rims from gotsubarus and he said he had both a light and dark silver set. How different are they? Does anyone have any photos of them? I thought I had the lighter color but i saw a post saying the 92 pearlie came with the darker color. Whats the difference? (the new ones look the same to me as the old but i havent had them side by side)
Yes, gotsubarus i am doing my research after buying the rims. But i dont care if they dont match if anyone looks that hard at both sides of my car they have more problems than i do. |
The closest photo of the differences between the two different color wheels happen to be on Earl's pearlies.
http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/fil...eele/25323.JPG The car on the left has the dark silver (original) wheels, which came on the 1992-1993 cars. The SVX on the right has the bright silver wheels which came on the 1994-1997 cars. I personally think the light silver wheels look better on the pearl color; brightens up the whole car. I had my original 92 rims powdercoated the lighter silver. . |
The lighter wheels are alot nicer looking on any color IMHO.

Hmm, i wonder if my rims have faded since my original rims look much lighter than those (inside the spoke areas they are sort of dark but it fades, They do have quite a bit of oxidation on them) I thought i'd like the darker color but the lighter is much nicer. I guess i'll be buying 2 more rims instead of the entire dark grey set.

or go straight to http://www.transwheel.com They absolutely do the best work. The closest plant to you is Williamsport (Hagerstown) Maryland. This is a photo of one of my wheels which was taken about 2 months ago. These wheels were refinished almost FIVE years ago! I refinished them when I had my 92 pearlie and transferred them to my 96 Polo almost 4 years ago. Been through many Maryland winters and are still absolutely mint. No cracking, peeling or fading. The price may have gone up since I had them done. They also offer a free lifetime guarantee on the finish. http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/fil...cess/37583.jpg . |
I tried to get the paint codes for the wheels from Subaru at the 10th Anniversary meet. Unfortunately after trying for 2 months they could not find them.

The wheels were coated with the Sikkens liquid base coat, followed by the claer powdercoat. They have two colors of clear powdercoat, a warmer and a cooler tone. I used the warmer tone for the match. As for the center caps, I sent them caps that had the centers filled, sanded and primered (thanks to nubs) They used the matching liquid base and a clear acrylic lacquer clearcoat, followed by a wet sanding and buffing out. At the time, they charged me $50.00 to refinish all four caps. This is something they usually prefer not to do, but I guess I was lucky, sice no preparation was involved For what it's worth, what they did was a Full-face reconditioning Internal paint code: LS10A . |
Silver/Argent?
I am looking for a set of stock rims and came across a website that sells them but they list a set as "Argent" and a set as "Silver". What is "Argent" and what is the correct color for my 95?
|
Another Option
Another place that sells, coats and/or repairs is Wheels America. There site can be reached at www.FixRims.com
They are best if you have wheels with damage. They repair, rebalance and coat. They are a little expensive for just coating of a perfectly good wheel. Lee |
DAVESTONE gas a set for sale in the parts forum.

yeah I do have a set from a '94

That would be the lighter color if they are stock wheels and came with the car. :)

Ok. When you say "lighter color" are you refering to the "silver" color or this so called "Argent" color? I understand that the 95's had the lighter "Silver" , but what is "Argent" and did it come stock on our cars? Use this link and see what I mean about the two colors. They sell a color called "Argent". http://www.finishlinewheels.com/
