Power mode switch Q:

Hi, i am putting in a power mode switch in my car it is a 1997
i bought a switch that lights up when it is in power mode
so i need to know what wire in car that will only send power to the light when it is in power mode.
like on the earlier models with the green light in the dash
do i need to tie into that to get it to light up on my switch?
the 96-97 dont have that green power mode light in the dash this would tell me that power mode was on.

Re: Power mode switch Q:

Any constant power should do it.
The light will only be on when the switch is in the on position completing the circuit.

This is of course assuming you have a switch like this with 3 posts.

Don't forget that the power mode switch is completing the ground circuit, so that diagram isn't exactly correct for this situation. It should have one positive supply wire (for the light in the switch) and one ground wire (from the car chassis), and then the other wire will go to the TCU harness to ground pin A4 (I think). Don't fry your TCU by supplying 12V to that pin!

:)

You right, I forgot we are just wiring a ground wire with a break in it, not a hot wire..
But yes, If that feeds 12v down the tcu line.. I think that would be very bad..

When I first looked at that switch, it looked to me like that 12v feeds the LED light only, because the same switch with no light is a 2pin setup.

So I thought that 3rd power post feeds only the LED, but at this point I wouldn't trust that without an internal wiring diagram of the switch.

I think I remember why I went with the switch without a light now. :P

On another note.. I have had power mode switch for 2 years now. I cant remember the last time I pushed it to turn off power mode.
The only time I don't want to be in power mode is when I am cruising at the same speed on the highway.
When I'm doing that I turn on the cruise control and that automatically turns off power mode.

Re: Power mode switch Q:

I'm not saying that diagram is wrong, just that it's a generic diagram :)

Some lighted switches have the terminals marked: power, ground, and accessory. If that's the case, you'd have to wire it backwards to get it to work right since the switch connects the power and accessory terminals. So basically you would want to connect chassis ground to the power terminal on the switch, connect the accessory terminal to the TCU, and connect your positive power source to the ground terminal on the switch. Keep in mind that this won't work if the light in the switch is an LED, because LEDs are polarity sensitive.

My power mode switch is lighted, but it's also not a regular lighted switch.

So what kind of lighted switch did you use?

One like this right?

I USED A SWITCH OUT OF A 1995 NISSAN PATHFINDER ALOT OF THE SVX SWITCHES ARE FROM NISSAN IT IS A SWITCH FOR POWER MODE SPECIFICLY.
I have it all wired in it has a green ilumination blub for at night and when i am in power mode it has a amber light telling me it is on.
(i had to take the swich apart to put the green condom on the bulb so it would match the interior
i bought mine off of ebay here it is http://www.ebay.com/itm/1995-Nissan-...a90461&vxp=mtr
i mounted it where other door lock switch on the wood trim around the shifter
i used a soldering iron to make another hole for the extra swich.

Here is the switch I used it is a power mode switch out of a Nissan pathfinder 95 or something it is the exact same as the door lock switch that is made by Nissan. I have it so when when power mode is on the light comes on and it was a amber light so I put a green condom on the bulb so it will match the interior illumination.
