Custom DIN slot cup holder

4 Attachment(s)
I just completed my custom cup holder. It is made from Plexiglass. I replaced the double din stereo with a single din Pioneer. I put that in the lower din slot. In the upper din slot I installed a pocket. There are two upper and two lower rubber foam strips on the sides of the plexiglass to hold it firmly in the pocket and provide some stabilization or shock absorption. There are two plastic clips holding a steel rod which swings down to hold straight sided bottles. There is a Neodymium magnet glued to the plexiglass to hold the steel rod out of the way for tapered travel mugs.

A half-bottle perhaps. Asti is just Moscato. There are some wineries that actually make half-bottles of the stuff. In fact, you can get half bottles of Moscato Ice Wine. REALLY good stuff. I will put a bottle in there and see if it holds it.........

I have found (and ordered) OT's favorite in both the 375ml and the mini 187ml bottles.

I'd like to see a picture with a bottle or can inside it.

What kind? Unless it is too big for the hole it would look like my pics but with a bottle inside.;)

I was curious about how level the can sat, how much of the radio and HVAC controls it blocked.

It seems like an awkward place to put a drink but it looks well done.

Nice work, would it fit if you swapped it and the stereo?

That is the same place that Subaru put them in the 97 & 98 Outbacks that I had, the thing to remember is drink the liquid down a little before placing it in the holder. Both of the Outbacks mentioned had radio buttons that did not work, when I bought them, due to pop or coffee being spilled down the front :(

Same problem with Audis. I need to remove my climate control and clean all of the buttons. :/

If you use a tapered travel mug and flip up the steel rod, spilt coffee will run down the top surface and into the pocket where it is held nicely (assuming we are talking a small spill here) until you can remove the holder and clean up the mess. I don't drink soda. An accident with a water bottle is minor, again, assuming a small spill.

It would be pretty cool to put some LEDs mounted to the back side of the plexi and do a notch like thing around the outside to give it a lit border kind of a thing. That's how the cup holder in my Volvo is and it gives it such a neat look at night. One LED generates this entire ring of light because of how the plastic of the cup holder is notched. It works kind of like how the BMW angel eyes work.

That would be easy to do but I polished the edges of my holder so they won't scatter much light.

Here you go. With no can/mug and the rod on the magnet the display and controls are all visible and accessible. With a can/mug, the display is blocked but the controls are still visible and accessible.

Not bad Husky. Does it slide in when not in use?
