Out of curiosity, do you know if the ABS master cylinder is the same diameter?

Yes its 1 1/16 too but only 2 port instead of 4 for the non abs;-)

Okay thanks, I was just wondering if one was larger than the other.

Re: WTB:non abs svx brake master cylinder

I have been trying to get my hands on one for a while now. They are not terribly easy to find. Even new OEM I haven't been able to find - none of the parts websites show a separate non-abs master cyl.

What you might have to do is T the two ports into 4. One T to the front left/rear right, one T to the front right/rear left. Not as pretty or clean of a setup, but it will work.

The other idea I had was to have 2 more ports machined into the 2 port ABS one. The material for the ports is there, I just don't know how good of an idea it is to take one apart, machine it, and put it back together.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the m.c. cross over to the legacy. If so you should be able to get a legacy brake m.c. without abs fairly easy either reman or used.

Re: WTB:non abs svx brake master cylinder

^ The ID of the cylinder for the two is different, but other than that they look exactly the same. The ID of the legacy one is like 7/8" or something and the SVX one is 1 1/16". (I have one of each).

For someone using a non-SVX subaru body, a Legacy one would suffice, but they want to "upgrade" to the SVX one, so they can get more stopping power from less pedal travel.

just as an exemple i've put the sti 1 1/16 mc on my forester xt that is 1inch, its only 1/16 bigger but still make a difference... ! the svx one is for my gc... that is 7/8 from factory so will be an exelent upgrade too ;) i run brembo on all corner on both car ;)

SO does anyone have one for sale :)??

Re: WTB:non abs svx brake master cylinder

Gotcha now, didn't realize the bore was bigger. I run a 3/4" bore on my TVR when it should have a 5/8" and travel is about 3/4 of what it would be with the stock.

The T should work just fine. We deleted that pesky heavy abs system on the fastest stock motored SVX racer on the planet and Hocrest T'd it. I would recommend if you go that route that you also get two proportioning valves and plumb them in when you do it.

Have you tried www.car-part.com ?

So when you say it makes a difference, what do you mean? I understand the basics behind it, more pressure to the brakes with less pedal travel, but what does that translate to in the real world?

Also, it took me a couple years to obtain a non-ABS SVX master cyl, and I check the forum pretty much every day. It's rare enough that they don't pop up very often at all. So best of luck, but it might be a good idea to look at alternatives in the meantime.

It translates into less pedal feel or modulation available. Sure it gives you shorter travel but you won't brake faster or anything like that.

Re: WTB:non abs svx brake master cylinder

Don't be afraid to call as they are junk yards and most are not the most email friendly I've found. Even if they won't ship to ya, you can probably twist someone's arm here into fowarding it to ya or have it shipped to Reading and then you have to come.;)
