New car time
 

Not for me. I'm sticking with my SVX and 20-year-old MR2. Last weekend we decided that the problems we're having with my wife's car outweigh the fact that we're not making payments on it.

Unfortunately used Subarus are hard to come by in central Illinois and I'm not thrilled by the prospect of losing several grand in the first year with a new car. I looked around in Southeast Wisconsin and found several we liked.

We ended up with a 2005 Atlantic Blue Pearl Outback 2.5i. We were looking at previous-gen Outbacks originally, so the stuff you get with a 2005+ base model like ours really impresses me. My wife loves the car, of course. It's quite the step up from a '95 Legacy Brighton wagon. :) I think the Outback is a really pretty car. It'll be sort of a shame when they change the styling to match the Tribeca and Impreza.

Hats off to Sommer's Subaru in Mequon for hearing me say, 'you will take $4000 off that price' and not batting an eye. They gave me zero crap, did what they had to do to make the sale, and won my business.

That is good to hear. I love my 98 Outback. It drives great and has lots of room and decent mileage to boot. :) :) And best of all - It's a Subaru! :D :D

That would not be a regular MR2 SC. Thats a highly modified MR2 with a 3800SC V6 from a GTP.

lmao! i freaked the first time i got teh code, but a couple of minutes later, i figured it out. hubby drove teh legacy one night and he thought he borked my car. :D

You know, it hasn't bothered us so far. I like that you really don't have a choice - it'll annoy you until you put it on.

But a friend of mine would like to disable the chime in his LGT. Is it a difficult thing to do?

I hear if you wear your seat belt, like your supposed to, it goes off. But I'm only speculating. :D

Nice choice :D My mother is on her second new gen outback, and aparently they do one hellofa job protecting the ocupants in an accident :eek: ;) I hope you never have a chance to find out for yourself, but it is always comforting to know that if you must use that feature it is there :cool: I have driven both of hers (identical cars) arround 300 miles and if I was up for spending the money on a new car it is the ONLY car I would consider, but with the veggie diesel truck on the way I'll put up with a few discomforts.

i always wear my seatbelt, but its annoying if you are just sitting in the car and trying to do something (tweaking radio, etc.) if you disable it, it will still chime once (or twice?) when you first start it, but it won't keep constantly doing it.

"To dis-able the Seatbelt Chime...

1. turn key on to acc position (do not start car).
2. buckle and un-buckle the seatbelt 20 times
3. turn the key to the off position.
4. start the car...

You do NOT need to wait for the initial chimes to finish for ANY of the steps.

ALSO

KEEP IN MIND that this COMPLETELY ELIMINATES BOTH THE CHIME/BELL AND the CLUSTER REMINDER LIGHT.

After the initial bells/chimes and blinks of the reminder light, the light goes OUT and the bells do not chime again... "

Excellent choice. I do think they are really handsome cars, which is sweet, because the Tribeca or current WRX cars would win ugliness contests.

We warned them about that beercan ringpull nose job, but they went ahead and did it anyway!:eek: :o

I love my twin turbo Legacy estate. It is set up for road work, and does not have the Outback ground clearance, but I can trust it to go places, and at some serious speeds too.

I'm putting my black SVX on the road in February, and I will be sorry to part with the Legacy then, but I miss the plush ride and quietness of the SVX.
