it can't be any worse than some human attempts. at work i've seen people take multiple stabs at parallel parking from impossible angles, often pinballing between the two cars, and/or tearing their wheels up on the curb.

Ok I've never gotten on a soapbox here, but here it goes. This new Lexus accessory is ridiculous, an obsolute waste. And anyway shelling over the $50K+ for this useful feature is stupid. Why? I was recently watching television and this particular show had a real life demo of the car in operation, here are the problems:

First off you need to have a set specific distance between the two objects you will be parallel parking

Then you have to navigate it with arrows on the touch screen

In reality it is inpractical and takes more time than just doing it yourself

I am not sure why exactly this rubs me the wrong way so much, but it just seems that with all the technological advances we make why not produce something practical and stop wasting our time with useless fad's for lazy people, i mean come on, how lazy can you be that you can't even parallel park your own car!!

Ok i am done.

I actually find it amusing that it irritates you. :D

would the car know if your mother-in-law was in the parking spot -- might be worth the over 50k price -- just sayin

Isn't Lexus also bringing an 8-speed automatic to market? Has Gillette introduced an 8-blade razor yet?

File these and self-parking under: Gimmicks for people who have way more money than sense.

This does bug me. Instead of features like this just make the people who want this feature take driving classes and learn how to park properly.

I think a better feature would be anti-door ding sensors!

people would just ignore them.

cars should have scissor-style doors - this would eliminate dings. :D

No, nothing audible. Have sensors on the door and actual brakes on the door hinges to prevent the door from opening up into another object.

shelfy 10-25-2006 03:07 PM

why does one need to learn how to parallel park when everywhere one goes has valet?

Rightly said.I guess the innovation is for them extra lazey valets.Although ...Lexus may have put ALOT more thought into it.figure after taking out 4 home loans for a car that parks itself , they may not have the dough for a valet...
....Hell, for that money ill drive the svx and just put my own valet into indentured servitude...
......Okay, I used enough of theese dotty lookin things this post. Thats the last one. For real. .....!
