Does air conditioning compressor go on and off

I have always wondered what the air conditioning compressor does when the temp setting is raised from 65 to 72. Does the compressor keep working strong well warm air is mixed in with cold air or, does the compressor shut down (saving gas) until the desired temp is reached and then start working again.

The compressor on the SVX does not "cycle" as it does on most cars. I posted a quote from the manual . . . somewhere in my 5,000 some-odd posts. You might do a search on compressor. Or, if you're "brave" you could click the "view all posts by this member" button. :D

Awww, what the heck. I did the search for you. Here's what I posted in my previous post:

Okay, here's a quote from the manual:

"4. Air Conditioning System

1. Compressor

1) General
A wobble plate electronically controlled variable delivery compressor is used. The solenoid valve built in the compressor is controlled by the auto control unit. This ensures optimum compressor delivery with less power and less fuel, as well as smooth drive feel since ON-OFF is eliminated."

...and....AND

If you stomp on the pedal and activate POWER MODE, the A/C will cut out for you to give those wheels all the power they deserve.

I wish they would have done that with the Forester. The poor little four banger practially stalls when the A/C kick in and out....
